Ford Motor Company of Australia has formally launched the recall notice under (recall reference REC-006443) to address a manufacturing defect that may prevent the rear camera from displaying as intended while reversing.
More than 24,400 units of the Ford Mustang (model years 2015–2018) are being recalled across Australia over a fault in the rear-view camera system that could increase the risk of accidents.
What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?
According to the recall notice, the defect arises from a manufacturing issue that can cause the rear-view camera to stop presenting a rear-view image when the vehicle is placed in reverse.
Because the rear camera helps drivers detect obstacles, pedestrians, or small objects behind the vehicle, its failure may impair situational awareness when reversing. In particular:
- The instrument cluster may illuminate a warning lamp indicating the rear-view camera is unavailable.
- Without a functioning rear-view image, drivers may fail to see hazards behind them, increasing the risk of collisions, injury, or even death.
Which vehicles are affected?
- Make: Ford
- Model: Mustang
- Model Years: 2015–2018
- Variants: All
- Total Affected Units in Australia: 24,476
A list of affected VINs has been published. Ford Mustang owners are encouraged to check if their vehicle is included in the recall.

What should owners do now?
Ford will contact all registered owners in writing, urging them to schedule a repair at an authorised Ford dealership. The recall remedy will be provided free of charge. At the dealership, technicians will correct the defect, which may involve repair or replacement of the rear-view camera assembly to ensure it functions as intended.
