Volvo has issued a nationwide safety recall in Australia for its EX30 electric SUV, impacting 3,344 vehicles built between 2023 and 2024.

The recall (campaign number R10363, recall reference REC-006551), originally published on 26 February 2026, relates to a manufacturing defect in the high-voltage battery system that could pose a serious fire risk under certain conditions.

What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

According to the recall notice, a manufacturing issue may cause the cell modules inside the EX30’s high-voltage battery to overheat, particularly when the battery is charged to high levels.

If overheating occurs, it could potentially lead to a vehicle fire, posing significant danger to occupants, other road users, nearby bystanders, and surrounding property.

What are the risks?

The potential consequences of this defect include:

  • Overheating of battery cell modules
  • Increased risk of vehicle fire
  • Risk of serious injury or death
  • Possible damage to surrounding property

Volvo has confirmed that this recall supersedes a previous notice (REC-006524), reflecting updated findings and corrective actions.

Which vehicles are affected?

  • Make: Volvo
  • Model: EX30
  • Variants: All
  • Model Years: 2023-2024
  • Total Affected Units in Australia: 3.344

A list of affected VINs has been published. Volvo EX30 owners are encouraged to check if their vehicle is included in the recall.

What should owners do now?

Until replacement parts become available, Volvo is advising owners to limit their vehicle’s battery charge level to no more than 70%. This setting can be adjusted via the vehicle’s infotainment display.

How to set the target charge level:

  1. Press the vehicle symbol in the bottom bar of the display and go to Settings
  2. Select Charging → Target battery level
  3. Set the maximum charge level to 70%

Volvo will contact affected customers once parts and permanent remedies are available.
