Ford Australia has issued a recall for the 2023 F150 full-size ute. Vehicle owners are warned of a manufacturing defect that could lead to a fuel leak and an engine compartment fire.

The compulsory recall, issued through the Department of Infrastructure, follows the identification of a fault where a fuel vapour line may be damaged by contact with a coolant hose.

What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

A manufacturing issue in 2023 Ford F150 pickups can wear down the fuel vapour line due to making contact with a gas coolant hose, potentially damaging one or both of them. A damaged fuel vapour line could lead to a fuel leak. If this leak contacts an ignition source, it could result in an engine compartment fire.

In less extreme cases, the coolant leak could result in reduced engine performance and drivability. The upcoming summer season could also exacerbate cooling system issues.

The official recall notice states: “A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or property damage.”

The F-150 is a critical model for Ford Australia in the large pickup segment, directly competing with the RAM 1500.
