Ford Motor Company of Australia Pty Ltd has issued a recall affecting 28 examples of the 2023 Ford Puma. The action follows the discovery that the vehicle’s Restraint Control Module (RCM) may have been loaded with an incorrect configuration during manufacturing.

What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

Ford puma

The defect relates to the vehicle’s Restraint Control Module (RCM), which manages the operation of airbags and seatbelt pretensioners. Due to an incorrect configuration being installed at the factory, if an incorrect replacement part is fitted in the future, warning alerts may not be displayed.

In the event of a crash, this could result in the airbags not deploying or the seatbelt pretensioners not activating as intended, increasing the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.
