Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall for a small batch of its 2024 GLE and GLS SUVs due to a potential safety defect involving the multi-purpose camera and interior rear-view mirror.

According to the recall notice (campaign number RC5155), a manufacturing fault may have led to improper bonding of either the camera or the mirror on the windscreen. This defect could cause the parts to detach over time. If this happens, crucial driver assistance systems may fail to function as expected, and the driver’s rear vision could be compromised, both of which significantly raise the risk of an accident.

Only five vehicles are affected by this recall, making it a rare but serious issue. The defect, if left unaddressed, could potentially lead to severe injury or even death, posing a risk not only to the occupants but also to pedestrians and other road users.

What should you do if you own one of these vehicles?

Mercedes-Benz is urging affected owners to contact their nearest authorised dealership immediately. The repair will be carried out free of charge.
