BMW has rolled out its Sport Collection edition for the BMW X1 sDrive 18i, following the formula already applied to the 1, 2, and 3 Series. This latest offering enhances the entry-level X1 small SUV with a host of cosmetic and functional upgrades, wrapped into a compelling value package priced at $72,900 drive-away.

Set to arrive in Australian showrooms in Q3 2025, the Sport Collection aims to offer buyers a taste of premium styling and dynamic enhancements typically reserved for higher-spec variants.

Sportier styling with M design cues

At the core of the new BMW X1 Sport Collection edition is the M Sport styling package, which includes revised front and rear bumpers for a more aggressive aesthetic. Complementing the styling tweaks are 18-inch bi-colour alloy wheels, standard metallic paint in a choice of four colours, and a badge delete option, removing the ‘sDrive 18i’ insignia for a cleaner rear design.

A panoramic glass sunroof also comes standard, enhancing both cabin ambience and outward visibility.

Interior enhancements and comfort features

Inside, the Sport Collection retains the black faux leather upholstery found in the standard model but adds extra touches, including:

  • ‘M Hexacube’ dash inserts
  • Heated front seats
  • Electrically adjustable front seats with driver memory

These inclusions raise the cabin appeal for the BMW X1 without straying far from the base specification.

Mechanical tweaks: Adaptive M suspension

While the 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine remains unchanged — delivering 115kW and 230Nm to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission — the Sport Collection benefits from adaptive M suspension.

This setup provides more responsive handling and road feel, offering a dynamic edge typically found in the xDrive 20i, though without its all-wheel drive system or power bump.

BMW X1 lineup

At $72,900 drive-away, the Sport Collection sits above the regular X1 sDrive 18i, which starts at $61,800 plus on-roads or approximately $67,659 drive-away.

While the standard model with an Enhancement Package reaches $73,555 drive-away, it includes features such as a premium audio system, rear seat slide adjustment, and heated steering wheel — all of which are omitted in the Sport Collection.

However, those looking for M Sport aesthetics and adaptive damping without upgrading to the more powerful BMW X1 xDrive 20i will find the Sport Collection a unique middle ground.

Carryover features and tech

Despite its special edition status, the X1 sDrive 18i Sport Collection continues to offer a comprehensive suite of standard equipment, including:

  • 10.7-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Head-up display
  • Powered tailgate
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Keyless entry and start

Delivery timelines

Deliveries for the BMW X1 sDrive 18i Sport Collection are expected to commence in Q3 2025, with orders now open through BMW dealers nationally.

For buyers seeking added style, comfort, and handling precision without stepping up to more powerful variants, the Sport Collection strikes a purposeful new balance in BMW’s expanding X1 lineup.
