Great Wall Motors (GWM) Australia has announced a vehicle recall affecting MY25 units of the Cannon Alpha PHEV, Tank 300 HEV, and Tank 500 HEV and PHEV car models due to a manufacturing issue related to high-voltage wiring. Other GMW offerings in Australia include the Haval Jolion, Haval H6, Haval 6GT, Haval H7 and the entry-level EV – the GWM Ora.
What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

A manufacturing fault may mean the shielding ring in the high-voltage wiring harness is not properly grounded. This reduces electromagnetic shielding and can cause communication problems between the engine and transmission control systems. As a result, warning lights may appear, the car’s torque may drop, and the hybrid system may not cool properly.
Reduced vehicle power and poor cooling performance can increase the risk of an accident. In serious situations, this could lead to injury or death for vehicle occupants or other road users.
