The updated 2025 Subaru Crosstrek has just secured a five-star safety rating from ANCAP, reinforcing Subaru’s strong track record for building safe, family-friendly vehicles. The latest rating applies to Subaru Crosstrek models built from April 2025 onwards, including both petrol and hybrid variants now on sale across Australia and New Zealand.

What’s changed for 2025?
The MY25 Subaru Crosstrek introduces subtle yet significant enhancements, particularly in its safety technology and structural performance. ANCAP conducted a range of crash and safety assist tests, including full-width frontal, side impact, and oblique pole crash tests, all of which contributed to the Subaru Crosstrek’s top-tier rating.
The Subaru Crosstrek also features a centre airbag between the front seats, designed to reduce injury in side-impact collisions. However, its performance was mixed in testing scenarios.

How safe is the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek?
Here’s how the updated Subaru Crosstrek performed in key ANCAP safety categories:
Adult Occupant Protection: 83%
The Subaru Crosstrek scored ‘good’ levels of protection for both driver and front passenger, with close to full marks in the side and full-width frontal crash tests.
Child Occupant Protection: 91%
It excelled in child safety, scoring maximum points in crash scenarios with child dummies. The second row comes equipped with ISOFIX and top tether points, accommodating most child restraints with ease.
Vulnerable Road User Protection: 85%
The Subaru Crosstrek’s bonnet and windscreen offered Good head protection for pedestrians, though Poor scores were recorded for the stiff windscreen pillars. Subaru’s forward collision avoidance systems performed strongly in tests involving pedestrians and cyclists.
Safety Assist: 73%
The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek comes loaded with Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance suite, which includes autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, emergency lane keeping, and a driver monitoring system that can detect signs of fatigue or distraction. However, the AEB did perform poorly in cases of head-on traffic and at cross junctions.

Built for peace of mind
While the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek shares much of its underpinnings with the Impreza, it was tested individually for pedestrian protection due to differences in the bonnet and bumper design. In fact, it performed better than the Impreza in upper leg protection for pedestrians — helping it edge ahead slightly in that category.
It’s important to note that this five-star ANCAP rating applies only to MY25 Subaru Crosstrek models built from April 2025 onwards. Older MY24 vehicles are not included under this assessment.

Conclusion
According to ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg, “The Subaru Crosstrek is an important model for the Australian and New Zealand markets and continues to be a popular choice for fleet and private buyers alike.”
With robust occupant protection, advanced safety features, and intelligent updates, the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek stands out as a strong choice for drivers seeking both practicality and safety.
