The Volkswagen Amarok range is expanding in Australia for 2025, with the addition of new cab-chassis variants, updated equipment, and the introduction of a special edition as well. Prices have also been revised, with drive-away costs dropping across much of the dual-cab pickup lineup.
The Volkswagen Amarok range now kicks off at $55,990 drive-away for the Core TDI405 dual-cab, representing a more competitive entry point after factoring in previously excluded on-road costs.

Amarok cab-chassis now available
For the first time in this generation of the German ute, cab-chassis variants have been added to the Volkswagen Amarok lineup. Based on the Core, Life, and Style trim levels, these versions offer greater flexibility for commercial users and are priced at a $4000 premium over their equivalent pickups.

VW Amarok cab-chassis pricing:
Variant | Drive-away price |
Core Tray TDI405 | $59,990 |
Life Tray TDI500 | $65,990 |
Style Tray TDI500 | $76,740 |
Style Tray TDI600 | $80,740 |
A factory-fitted alloy tray is included, measuring 1900mm by 1835mm externally with a 1650mm internal length. A heavier 243kg steel tray can also be optioned as a dealer-fit alternative.
Amarok 10 Deserts Edition debuted

Also new for 2025 is the Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition, priced at $69,990 drive-away and inspired by the vehicle that set a Guinness World Record for traversing Australia’s deserts.
It features off-road upgrades, including a 40mm suspension lift, 275mm ground clearance, 17-inch black alloy wheels, and Continental CrossContact all-terrain tyres. Underbody protection and special badging round out the enhancements.
Equipment updates across the board

Several trim levels of the Volkswagen Amarok, including the Style, PanAmericana, and Aventura grades, now feature a 230V socket in the tub powered by a 400W inverter. This update is useful for charging tools, laptops, or other electronic devices. These same variants also gain Trailer Assist as standard, improving towing support alongside Rear Traffic Alert.
Cosmetically, the only change for the Volkswagen ute is the introduction of a new Reed Green Metallic paint, replacing the outgoing Mid Blue. All metallic colours carry a $1100 premium, except for the no-cost Clear White.
What remains unchanged?

The Volkswagen Amarok continues to share its platform and much of its engineering with the Ford Ranger. The interior layout, infotainment tech, and upholstery options all carry over from the previous model year, with no significant revisions inside the cabin.
Engine lineup and efficiency
Volkswagen offers the Amarok with four engine options in Australia:
Variant | Engine | Power/Torque | Fuel consumption (claimed) |
Volkswagen Amarok TDI405 | 2.0L 4-cyl turbo-diesel | 125kW / 405Nm | 8.0L/100km |
Volkswagen Amarok TDI500 | 2.0L 4-cyl bi-turbo diesel | 154kW / 500Nm | 7.2L/100km |
Volkswagen Amarok TDI600 | 3.0L V6 turbo-diesel | 184kW / 600Nm | 8.4L/100km |
Volkswagen Amarok TSI452 | 2.3L 4-cyl turbo-petrol | 222kW / 452Nm | 9.7L/100km |
All engines are paired with four-wheel drive and an automatic transmission (six-speed for TDI405, 10-speed for others).
Dimensions and capabilities

The Amarok cab-chassis models measure slightly longer than the pickups (5456mm vs 5362mm) and offer a wider tray, but ground clearance remains the same at 235mm (except the 10 Deserts Edition). Payload capacity ranges from 971 kg to 1,000 kg, depending on the engine and configuration. The Volkswagen Amarok also boasts strong off-road credentials, including an 800mm wading depth and approach angles up to 30 degrees.
Safety and servicing
The Volkswagen Amarok holds a five-star ANCAP safety rating, sharing crash data with the Ford Ranger, but supplemented by Volkswagen Amarok-specific testing. Safety features include:
- Nine airbags (including centre and rear)
- Adaptive cruise control
- Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection
- Lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring
- Rear cross-traffic alert
- Speed sign recognition
- Trailer brake controller
Volkswagen offers five years of capped-price servicing, averaging $460.40 per year, or buyers can opt for a five-year Care Plan priced at $2200. A five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty applies, with 12 months of roadside assistance included at the time of purchase.
