BYD has revealed a 2026 model year update for the BYD Seal in the UK, introducing increased boot capacity, additional driver assistance technology and expanded customisation options.
While the changes are currently confirmed for the British market, they provide an early indication of what could arrive in Australia if the update is rolled out locally.
More practicality within the same footprint

The most significant change is improved cargo space.
- Boot capacity increases from 400 litres to 485 litres
- The front storage compartment (frunk) grows to 72 litres (up 19 litres)
- New tethering hooks added in the rear boot
For Australian buyers, where boot space is often scrutinised against rivals, this directly addresses one of the BYD Seal’s more frequently noted limitations.
The overall vehicle length remains unchanged at approximately 4.8 metres.
Subtle design updates and new colours

The 2026 update brings minor exterior revisions:
- New 19-inch alloy wheel design
- BYD badge repositioned centrally above the rear LED light bar
- Model designation moved to the lower right of the boot lid
Three new exterior colours join the existing palette:
- Ruby Red
- Obsidian Black
- Lavender Grey
Inside, Nappa leather upholstery continues, though headrests now feature a cleaner look without embroidered branding.
Expanded technology and safety features

The updated BYD Seal adds several new features to its already extensive equipment list:
- Driver Monitoring System (DMS)
- Smartphone-based Bluetooth key access
- 15.6-inch high-definition touchscreen (retained)
- Dynaudio 12-speaker audio system
- Panoramic glass roof
- Heated and ventilated front seats
- Dual 15W wireless charging pads
The addition of a Driver Monitoring System aligns with increasingly stringent global safety standards and could support strong ANCAP performance if introduced in Australia.
Performance remains unchanged

Two variants continue overseas:
| Specifications | BYD Seal Design | BYD Seal Excellence |
| Drivetrain | Rear-Wheel Drive | All-Wheel Drive |
| Power | 230kW | 390kW |
| Torque | 360Nm | 670Nm |
| 0–100km/h | ~570km | ~520km |
| WLTP Range (approx.) | 5.9 sec | 3.8 sec |
Both variants use an 82.5kWh Blade Battery (LFP chemistry) and support DC fast charging at up to 150kW, achieving a 10–80% charge in around 37 minutes. Top speed remains limited to ~180km/h.
Pricing and market position

UK pricing for the 2026 BYD Seal starts at £45,730, roughly AUD $88,000 at current exchange rates. While Australian pricing has not yet been confirmed, it is expected to remain competitive within the local electric sedan segment.
In Australia, the Seal would compete with models such as the Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Polestar 2. The increased boot space and upgraded safety technology could strengthen the Seal’s value proposition in Australia’s increasingly competitive EV market.
Australian availability
At this stage, the 2026 BYD Seal has not been confirmed for Australia. No local pricing or arrival timing has been announced, and final specifications may differ from the UK model.
If introduced locally, the 2026 update would likely emphasise practicality and equipment refinement over performance changes, features that resonate strongly with Australian EV buyers. Further local details are expected later in 2026.
