Chery Australia has expanded its local C5 range with the introduction of a new hybrid powertrain, which gives buyers another option between the existing petrol-powered C5 and the fully electric E5.

The new Hybrid powertrain is available in Urban and Ultimate trim levels, and it starts from $31,990 drive-away and arrives in Australian dealerships this month.

Lucas Harris, COO of Chery Australia, said, “There’s no secret demand for New Energy Vehicles (NEV) is growing within the Australian market, and Chery aims to meet these requirements by offering customers the best of both worlds.”

“The C5 Hybrid is the ideal car for people who aren’t ready to jump completely into the EV space and still want the convenience of a petrol-powered vehicle.”

2026 Chery C5 Hybrid pricing and release date

The all-new 2026 Chery C5 Hybrid will arrive in Australian dealerships in July 2026. The Chery E5 Electric comes at a premium as compared to its Hybrid sibling, priced from $36,990 before on-road costs.

Powertrain details of the 2026 Chery C5 Hybrid

The biggest changes are found beneath the bodywork. The C5 Hybrid uses a self-charging series-parallel hybrid system, known as SHS-H (Super Hybrid System Hybrid).
