2026 Cupra Leon arrives in Australia with new hybrid variants

The Leon range has been updated for 2026, adding a Sportstourer wagon and offering mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and high-performance petrol variants

The updated 2026 Cupra Leon is due to hit Australian showrooms in late 2025. It makes for a comprehensive range that includes a mild-hybrid hatch, a performance-focused hatch variant, and for the first time locally, a plug-in hybrid Sportstourer wagon option. 

2026 Cupra Leon trims and pricing

The updated Leon lineup launches with three variants (prices exclude on-road costs):

  • Leon Hatch S (mild-hybrid) – powered by a 1.5L turbo petrol engine with 48-V mild-hybrid assistance.
  • Leon Hatch VZx (performance petrol) – featuring a 2.0L turbo petrol engine.
  • Leon Sportstorer VZe (PHEV wagon) – the new wagon variant offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain with up to 121 km WLTP electric range.

2026 Cupra Leon exterior updates

The new and improved Leon receives Cupra’s bold “shark-nose” styling, complete with triangular LED DRLs and a full-width rear taillight bar incorporating an illuminated Cupra logo. The refreshed exterior also boasts new alloy wheel options and expanded colour choices, including standard, premium, and matte finishes.

Subtle tweaks to the front grille, bumper inserts and aerodynamic detailing further distinguish the 2026 model, while 10 exterior colour options – including premium and matte options offer added personalization.

All variants remain front-wheel drive and are paired with dual-clutch transmissions (7-speed for hatch and 6-speed for PHEV wagon).

2026 Cupra Leon interior and safety updates

Inside, the Leon sports a redesigned cockpit with updated centre console, dashboard, door panels, and new upholstery. Standard across the range are sports bucket seats, a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital instrument display, tri-zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPLay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charging.

Safety features include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, front cross-traffic assist, park self-parking, speed-sign recognition, and a total of 10 airbags. 

Optional extras include:

  • Leather &  Sound Package: At $2,200 on Hatch S, you can get Moonslate leather trim, power passenger seat memory, and a 12-speaker Sennheiser system.
  • Extreme Package: For $7,600 on VZx, this package includes cup bucket seats in Enceladus Grey, Akebano brakes, Matrix Ultra LED high-beam headlights, and glossy dark-grey accents. Sunroof options ($1,800 for hatch, $2,000 for wagon) are also available.

2026 Cupra Leon launch timeline and warranty

All three variants of the new Cupra Leon will be available for test drives and orders from October 2025, with deliveries commencing in November. Cupra Australia backs the 2026 Leon with a 5-year unlimited-km warranty, plus an 8-year/160,000km warranty on high-voltage batteries for PHEV models.
