BYD’s luxury subsidiary Denza has officially revealed pricing and specifications for the 2026 Denza B5, a plug-in hybrid SUV. The B5 comes with BYD’s DM-O (Dual Mode Offroad) platform, positioned squarely against the likes of the Toyota Prado and Ford Everest but with a nicer cabin.
Orders are now open following the official Denza B5 unveiling at the launch of Denza’s first Australian location in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney, with deliveries scheduled for late January 2026.
Pricing of Denza B5
| Variant | Price (before on-roads) |
|---|---|
| Denza B5 | $74,990 |
| Denza B5 Leopard | $79,990 |
The B5 is placed as a slightly smaller rival to Toyota’s Prado GX. Both variants of the Denza B5 are in the same pricing segment as the Toyota Prado GX ($72,500+ drive-away) and the GWM Tank 500 PHEV ($79,990 drive-away), but are more powerful than the latter.
Launching alongside the dual-motor 4WD Denza B5 is the larger Denza B8, which is a three-row, six- or seven-seat flagship SUV priced from $91,000 before on-roads.
For this, Denza COO Mark Harland said, “At Denza, we’re excited to offer Australian customers a gateway to automotive luxury at price points which are unrivalled in the segment.”

Denza B5 powertrain details
The Denza B5 uses a similar plug-in hybrid powertrain as the BYD Shark 6 ute, but gets a better electric system, more advanced off-road drivetrain and additional performance. Here’s how the specifications compare:
| Specification | BYD Shark 6 | Denza B5/B5 Leopard |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | 1.5L turbo-petrol 4-cyl | 1.5L turbo-petrol 4-cyl |

| Payload | 790kg | 600kg (490kg in Leopard) |
| Kerb Weight | 2710kg | 2897kg (3007kg in Leopard) |
The B5’s substantially larger fuel tank compared to the BYD Shark 6 (83 vs 60 litres) provides genuine touring range. The claimed 850km WLTC range means traversing substantial distances between fuel stops. Vehicle-to-load technology with an included Mode 2 charging cable enables using the B5 as a portable power source.
The 3000kg braked towing capacity matches the Prado and exceeds most Chinese competitors. The front and rear electronically-actuated differential locks provide genuine off-road traction beyond what traction control and driving modes alone deliver in the BYD Shark 6.
“What really excites us is getting to share Denza’s technology with Aussie customers. You can use these vehicles almost exclusively as EVs around town, while being able to hit the road for almost 1,000km in a single drive thanks to this Super Hybrid technology,” Mark Harland said.

Denza warranty and servicing
The 6-year/150,000km vehicle warranty and 8-year/160,000km battery warranty from Denza match the warranty offered by BYD. The 12-month/20,000km service interval is reasonable, though capped-price servicing details remain unavailable. Denza shares parts warehousing with BYD and has B5 components already in-country.
Denza also promises a premium ownership experience through “House of Denza.” It’s a brand universe offering concierge pickup/drop-off service, off-roading adventures, and dedicated dealership spaces for customer community building. This mirrors Lexus’s Encore program.
Key takeaways for the buyers
At $74,990-$79,990 before on-roads, the Denza B5 premium hybrid off-road SUV delivers specifications that conventional competitors cannot match at comparable pricing. The B5 enters a segment where the Toyota Prado has reigned for decades. The 400kW/760Nm combined output alone positions it against many higher-end performance SUVs.
There are limitations, such as limited payload capacity and an off-road drivetrain that is yet to be given the ultimate test by the Aussie buyers. Although the Denza B5 has yet to get a safety rating from ANCAP, it should score well as it shares its structural DNA with the 5-star rated BYD Shark 6.
