The recently unveiled Honda Super-One super-compact EV has been confirmed for launch in Australia. It just made its world premiere in prototype form at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 following a concept-based debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year.

The Honda Super-One will serve as the brand’s most affordable passenger car, sitting below the Honda Civic in the local range. Honda Australia says the new model will extend the brand’s focus on reliability and engineering into its electric vehicle lineup.

Pricing and positioning

Exact Australian pricing will likely be confirmed closer to launch, but the Honda Super-One is expected to start around $40,000, undercutting the Civic ($49,900 drive-away). The all-electric compact hatchback will compete with upcoming urban compact EVs such as the Hyundai Inster and BYD Atto 1, with dimensions suited to urban driving and a fully electric powertrain.

Super sized and design

There is a clear design influence from the ground-breaking Honda e in the new Honda Super-One, but this is set to be smaller and far more attainable. Measuring less than 3.6 metres long and 1.6 metres wide, the Super-One is even smaller than most compact SUVs, with dimensions closer to the Kia Picanto. Designed for dense urban environments, it is expected to offer agile handling and easy maneuverability.

Local tuning and development

Before its launch, Honda will conduct a local testing and tuning program to adapt the Super-One’s ride, handling, charging systems, and safety features for Australian conditions.

“Honda is renowned for our attention to detail and reliability,” said Honda Australia President and CEO Jay Joseph. “The Honda Super-One will launch in Australia following completion of a local testing program to ensure it meets our customers’ expectations for quality and performance.”

Performance and specifications

Honda has not yet disclosed motor outputs, battery capacity, or range figures. However, the Super-One shares its underpinnings with the N-One Kei car, which in electric form offers up to 295km of range.

According to Honda, the Super-One is designed to deliver engaging dynamics, with features such as Boost Mode, simulated gear shifts, and artificial engine sounds. Yep, boost mode and a simulated 7-speed transmission in a city-centric compact EV!

Legacy and future direction

While Honda previously offered the Honda e electric hatchback in global markets from 2020 to 2024, it never reached the Australian market. With advancements in EV battery and motor technology, the Super-One is expected to surpass the Honda e in both performance and range.

“Developed from Japanese Kei car concepts, Honda Super-One is designed to be an agile, quiet, and playful inner-city EV that’s as fun to drive as it is to own,” Joseph added.

The 2026 Honda Super-One marks the brand’s next step in electrification for Australia, combining compact dimensions with Honda’s engineering expertise to target urban buyers entering the EV market.
