Hyundai Elexio is arriving in Australia with a significant price rise. The current drive-away offer is set to end in less than six weeks, pushing up costs by between $6000 and $9000 depending on location.
To counter the increase, Hyundai has announced a new, more affordable base variant, due in Australian showrooms between April and June 2026, aimed at keeping the Elexio competitive against rivals such as the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV5.
The Hyundai Elexio launched locally in a single Elite grade, priced at $59,990 drive-away, but this introductory offer expires on April 1, when pricing will switch to $61,990 plus on-road costs.
According to Hyundai, this change will represent a real-world increase of $6034 to $9221, depending on state registration charges.
2026 Hyundai Elexio pricing
| Variants | Price(Before on-road cost) | Price(Drive-away until 1st April) |
| Hyundai Elexio (base) | $58,990 (Arriving Q2 2026) | NA |
| Hyundai Elexio Elite | $61,990 | $59,990 |
The upcoming entry-level Elexio will undercut the Hyundai Elite, offering a $58,990 plus on-road costs starting point, just $90 more than the base Tesla Model Y.
New base model to soften the blow
Hyundai says the new base Elexio will retain the same motor and battery combination as the higher-grade Elite but deletes some luxury features to reduce the entry price.
Like the Hyundai Elite, it will feature:
- Single 160kW/310Nm front-mounted electric motor
- 88.1kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery
- 400-volt electrical architecture
- Front-wheel drive only
Despite sharing the same battery, the cheaper Hyundai Elexio actually claims a longer driving range, thanks to its more aerodynamic 18-inch wheels, compared to the Hyundai Elite’s 20-inch alloys.
- Hyundai Base Elexio: 562km WLTP
- Hyundai Elite: 546km WLTP
Both variants consume 18.2kWh/100km and support 150kW DC fast charging, with 10–80 per cent charging claimed in 38 minutes.
2026 Hyundai Elexio platform, power and rivals
The Elexio rides on a 400V version of Hyundai-Kia’s E-GMP platform and is manufactured in China, like its closely related Kia EV5 sibling.
However, unlike the EV5, which offers multiple drivetrain options, the Hyundai Elexio is limited to:
- Two grades
- Front-wheel drive only
Hyundai’s introductory pricing has allowed the Elexio to undercut its Kia counterpart and challenge the segment-leading Tesla Model Y, at least until the April price rise.
