Jeep’s first rugged electric off-roader, the 2026 Jeep Recon EV is set to enter production, with the brand confirming US pricing and specifications ahead of assembly starting early in 2026.

The Recon EV is the brand’s first ‘Trail Rated’ full-electric SUV, and the first EV from Jeep to offer removable doors and glass, mirroring the Wrangler’s open-air configuration. However, it is still uncertain if and when the Jeep Recon EV will be coming to Australia.

Recon EV powertrain and range

The 2026 Jeep Recon EV is built on the STLA Large platform, which is also shared with the sleeker Jeep Wagoneer S EV. Below are the powertrain details for the trail-rated electric SUV:

Jeep says it has tuned the throttle to deliver steadier torque on rough terrain, while an electronically locking rear differential and front-axle disconnect enhance efficiency and grip. It runs on a short-long-arm front setup and an integral-link system at the rear.

Recon EV: Off-road features

At launch, the Jeep Recon EV will arrive first in the Moab trim, which is built with off-road trails in mind.

  • 33-inch tyres
  • Rock Mode and low-speed Selec-Speed Control
  • Side rock rails (optional)
  • Anti-glare bonnet graphic
  • Trails Offroad app with trail guides, pitch, and roll displays
  • Removable doors, tailgate glass, and quarter glass — no tools required
  • Dual-pane sunroof (Sky One-Touch power top optional)

The Recon EV also fits a full-size spare on the tailgate, as expected of a trail-rated Jeep.

Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf says the Recon demonstrates that electrification can enhance, not dilute, the brand’s off-road heritage: “Electrification isn’t just compatible with off-road excellence; it can elevate it.”

Interior and tech highlights

Inside, Jeep aimed for a mix of durability and modern tech for the Recon EV, with features such as:

  • 12.3-inch digital cluster
  • 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen (largest in a Jeep) with Uconnect 5
  • Buttonless dashboard layout with digital climate controls
  • Physical volume/tuning knobs retained
  • Standard Alpine audio, including under-seat speakers for open-air driving
  • Recycled materials for the headliner and carpets
  • Synthetic, non-leather interior surfaces
  • Unique Joshua Tree tan interior for Moab trim

Jeep claims the Recon can carry up to 1866L of cargo with the rear seats folded, plus an 85L front trunk.

Pricing and production

The Jeep Recon EV is priced from US$65,000 (around AU$100,000) before on-road costs,  slightly cheaper than the urban-centric Jeep Wagoneer S EV but pricier than Jeep’s plug-in hybrid 4xe models.

Production will take place at Jeep’s Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico, with initial rollout in the US and Canada, followed by yet-to-be-detailed “global expansion”.

Jeep’s EV strategy in Australia

For now, Jeep’s only EV on sale locally is the front-wheel-drive Avenger, a small urban SUV that made its debut in the European markets. If introduced locally, the Jeep Recon EV would be the first electric Jeep in Australia with a strong off-road focus, slotting above the Avenger and complementing the Wagoneer S.
