Mazda has officially unveiled the global version of its new mid-size electric SUV – the Mazda CX-6e. Premiered at the 102nd Brussels Motor Show in Belgium, the CX-6e is co-developed with Chongqing Changan Automobile and is Mazda’s second dedicated global BEV (Battery electric vehicle), following the Mazda 6e electric sedan.

The Mazda CX-6e builds on the MAZDA EZ 60 concept, first shown at the Shanghai Motor Show in the first half of 2025, and represents Mazda’s collaborative EV phase. The Mazda CX-6e is scheduled to launch in Europe in mid-2026, with an Aussie launch later in the year.

Further details about the Euro and Australia specification of the Mazda CX-6e are expected to be revealed as the electric SUV nears market launch. The handling and ride comfort of this global BEV model are specifically tuned for European preferences.

The CX-6e SUV evolves Mazda’s Kodo: “Soul of Motion” design into a sharper, more athletic electric form. Its sculpted surfaces are designed to reflect light dynamically. Some of the key exterior features of the Mazda CX-6e include:

  • Slim LED headlights with an illuminated signature wing grille and welcome animation
  • Frameless doors and flush handles to reduce drag
  • “Floating” aerodynamic vents in the bonnet and rear pillars for airflow efficiency
  • 19-inch wheels, with 21-inch alloys on higher grades
  • Digital mirrors on Takumi Plus with weatherproof cameras

Colour choices include 7 metallic finishes with 6 multi-tone colour designs. Mazda will be offering it in a signature Nightfall Violet, shifting from black to deep purple depending on light, alongside classics like Soul Red Crystal and Air Stream Blue. If you’re hoping for Mazda’s newly developed Navy Blue Mica, it won’t be offered here at launch, as it is set to debut on the upcoming new-gen Mazda CX-5.

Mazda CX-6e interior, tech and comfort

Inside, the Mazda CX-6e follows the Japanese concept of “Ma”, using space and minimalism to create a calm cabin atmosphere. Here are some of the highlights from the cabin of the all-new Mazda electric SUV:

  • Maztex5 vegan leather upholstery with semi-matte titanium accents
  • Dominating 26-inch 5K touchscreen, split-view capable
  • Head-up display
  • 23-speaker, 1,280-watt system, including speakers in the driver’s headrest

Mazda’s EV reset in Australia

Mazda’s first Australian EV, the MX-30 Electric, launched in 2021 as a niche, experimental model. After roughly three years, it was withdrawn due to several reasons, including poor sales and a weak competitive value.

As of January 2026, Mazda has no BEVs on sale in Australia, but has confirmed two electric models arriving later in 2026: Mazda 6e and Mazda CX-6e. The CX-6e is scheduled to launch in Australia later in the year.

Mazda is also working on an in-house EV platform due globally around 2027, which may lead to further Australian releases, including a potential electric version of the new Mazda CX-5, as the CX-5e.
