The Subaru Impreza hatchback range has been trimmed back in Australia for 2026, with the popular small car now offered in just two variants alongside the introduction of new safety technology and updated exterior colours.

On sale now, the 2026 Subaru Impreza is available in AWD 2.0L and AWD 2.0S grades, with the mid-spec AWD 2.0R dropped from the local line-up.

Subaru Australia said the decision followed a review of customer demand:

“Subaru Australia continually reviews its model line-up to ensure it reflects customer preferences and demand, a spokesperson said. After careful review, the MY26 Impreza line-up has been streamlined to two variants, AWD 2.0L and AWD 2.0S, focusing on the specifications most preferred and supporting improved availability.”

The all-new Subaru Impreza is being offered in two trim levels, which are priced as follows:

Subaru Impreza exterior colours

Subaru has also revised the Impreza’s colour palette. A new Citron Yellow Pearl finish joins the range, while Oasis Blue has been discontinued. Most colours now attract a $660 surcharge, with Crystal White Pearl and Crystal Black Silica remaining no-cost options.

Emergency stop system added

The headline update for the MY26 Impreza is the addition of an emergency driving stop system as standard across the range. When adaptive cruise control is active, the system can bring the vehicle to a controlled stop, activate the hazard lights, and unlock the doors if the driver becomes unresponsive.

Market positioning

Australian new-car sales data shows the Subaru Impreza recorded 1618 sales in 2025, down 11.7 per cent year-on-year. This places it well behind key rivals such as the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai i30, Mazda 3, and Kia K4 in the competitive small hatchback segment.

Despite the trimmed range and price rise, Subaru is banking on added safety tech, all-wheel drive as standard, and improved availability to keep the Impreza relevant. The 2026 Subaru Impreza is on sale now in Australia.
