Toyota has finally put speculation to bed, officially confirming that its first Gazoo Racing-badged supercar will be called the 2026 Toyota GR GT. The confirmation comes via a newly aired Japanese TV commercial that reveals the car without camouflage for the first time, just days before its global unveiling on December 5.
Four years after the Toyota GR GT3 concept
It has been almost four years since Toyota shocked enthusiasts with the GR GT3 concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon. While early whispers suggested a production model would wear a Lexus badge, Toyota clarified earlier this year that the road car would belong squarely to the GR family, marking the brand’s first true supercar to be sold under Gazoo Racing.
First undisguised look, refined hypercar styling

Toyota darkened the 30-second teaser video to obscure finer details, but enough light slips through to clearly outline the Toyota GR GT’s form. Long bonnet, wide rear haunches and motorsport-inspired LED signatures front and rear give the 2026 Toyota GR GT an unmistakable resemblance to the 2026-spec GR010 Le Mans hypercar.
The teaser shows that the new Toyota GR GT is a low-slung, broad-shouldered super coupe with proportions that go well beyond those of the Toyota A90 Supra.
V10 to Inline-Six to V8

The teaser takes an emotional route, showing the upcoming supercar alongside icons like the Lexus LFA and the Toyota 2000GT. Each car’s soundtrack plays in sequence, the LFA’s screaming V10, the 2000GT’s straight-six, and finally what appears to be the deep rumble of a new twin-turbo V8.
Although Toyota hasn’t formally confirmed engine details, all signs point to the company’s newly developed twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8. A hybrid system is widely expected to join it, potentially taking the combined output beyond 660kW. A manual gearbox is unlikely, with an automatic transmission expected as standard.
GT3 Racer and Lexus spin-off expected

While the teaser showcases the road car, the Toyota GR GT’s development is believed to have motorsport at its core. A GT3-spec racing version is already in the pipeline and is expected to campaign in international endurance racing.
That same V8 hybrid powertrain is also tipped to find its way into Lexus’ upcoming flagship performance model, rumoured to be the Lexus LFR, previewed by the Lexus Sport Concept and spotted testing at Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring.
Where will the Toyota GR GT sit?

Toyota has trademarked the Toyota GR GT name in Australia, hinting strongly at local plans. Pricing remains unconfirmed, but the supercar is expected to sit at the peak of Toyota’s passenger-car line-up, far above the A90 Supra ($105,295 before on-road costs).
Early international reports estimate a price closer to AUD $220,000–$250,000. However, Toyota may aim to keep a safe distance from the ultra-exclusive $700,000 Lexus LFA to avoid competing directly with Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren.
Countdown to the December 5 reveal

The car’s global digital premiere will take place on December 5 at 11:00 am Tokyo time, with Australian viewers likely to catch it late morning. The world debut will be followed by a public showcase at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon from January 9–11.
With racing DNA, a new V8 hybrid powertrain and Toyota’s most aggressive GR design yet, the 2026 Toyota GR GT is shaping up to be the most important performance car in Toyota’s modern history, and one that Australian enthusiasts will be watching very closely.
