Toyota’s high-performance arm, Gazoo Racing (GR), has unveiled the 2026 Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR. It is a hardcore special edition, sports compact car revealed as an under-development prototype at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026.
Toyota’s Chairman, Akio Toyoda (racing name “Morizo”) himself supported the prototype development by testing a No. 109 GR Yaris in the 2025 Nürburgring 24-hour race and providing performance insights. This hot hatch will be available for sale around the spring of 2026, with 200 units, in Japan and Europe only.
Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR performance
The Morizo RR features an exclusive carbon-fibre rear wing generating significant downforce and a carbon-fibre hood (from the Aero Performance Package). Suspension tuning has been revised to improve tyre contact over rough, uneven surfaces, such as the Nürburgring.
Electric power steering (EPS) tuning has also been modified to maintain everyday usability while delivering a sharp, sporty response. It is fitted with an 8-speed GAZOO Racing direct automatic transmission (DAT) along with both front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials (LSD).
A new “MORIZO” 4WD mode replaces the standard GRAVEL mode. Developed directly with Morizo, it locks the front and rear torque split at 50:50, delivering predictable traction and maximum driver control. The hot hatch runs on matte bronze 18-inch forged BBS wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
The exterior looks of the Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR
The exterior is defined by a “functional and understated” aesthetic that prioritises high-speed stability. The Morizo RR is finished in exclusive Gravel Khaki paint, a colour personally favoured by Morizo to blend into everyday settings.
Along with the signature carbon fibre aerodynamic components, it is finished with Piano Black on the radiator grille, matte bronze wheels and yellow brake callipers (Morizo’s signature colour). Moreover, the windshield has an authentic Morizo autograph, and a “MORIZO RR” emblem is placed on the rear door.
An exclusive motorsport-inspired cabin
The cabin is a motorsport-focused cockpit with revised ergonomics. The Morizo RR has a new, suede-wrapped steering wheel with a slightly smaller outer diameter. It features independently laid-out switches based on the GR Yaris Rally2 car to prevent accidental activation during aggressive driving.
This sports car has a signature Yellow stitching applied to the steering wheel, shift knob, parking brake lever, and seat upholstery. Moreover, it has exclusive sports seats featuring modified headrest embroidery, yellow stitching, and colour-coded perforations.
This sports compact car has a specialised GR Full TFT gauge display, which includes a unique interface for the new “Morizo” 50:50 AWD mode. And every unit includes an exclusive serial-number plate bearing the MORIZO RR logo.
Production and launch details of the Morizo RR
The 2026 Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR was officially unveiled as a production-intent prototype at the Tokyo Auto Salon on January 9, 2026. The special-edition 2026 Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR is limited to only 200 units worldwide. 100 units are allocated for Japan and 100 units for “certain” European markets.
Toyota offers purchasing rights in Japan via a lottery system whose applications opened on January 9, 2026, through the official “GR app”. The sales and customer deliveries are expected to start in Spring 2026.
Developed by Morizo, proven at the Nürburgring

Toyota’s Gazoo Racing (GR) division enters its production-based prototypes into motorsports to push cars to their breaking point, fix weaknesses, and improve real-world performance. The Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR was created alongside Akio Toyoda, Toyota Chairman and Master Driver, who races under the name “Morizo”.
Development insights for Morizo RR came directly from Toyota’s participation in the 2025 Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race, where Akio Toyoda, aka Morizo, drove the No. 109 GR Yaris.
Despite brutal conditions, he completed more laps than planned, later praising the car and crediting the transmission for helping him complete 15 demanding laps of 21 kilometres.
As of January 2026, Toyota has officially shortened the division’s name from Toyota Gazoo Racing to simply Gazoo Racing, reinforcing its identity as a standalone performance brand. GR develops bespoke, “pure” sports cars such as the Toyota GR Yaris, GR Supra, GR86, and GR Corolla, and is preparing to launch its first true flagship models, the Toyota GR GT and GR GT3, in 2026.
