Chinese EV maker XPeng has pulled the covers off the 2026 XPeng P7, marking the return of its original flagship sedan with a complete redesign. First introduced in 2019 and later replaced by a brief P7i and P7+ run, the second-generation P7 arrives with a sharper exterior, advanced artificial intelligence-assisted driving technology, and an aim to target international markets.

1. New design language

The new P7 sedan introduces XPeng’s next-generation design language, led once again by French designer Rafik Ferrag. While retaining its signature fastback silhouette, the 2026 model evolves with a more angular and assertive profile.

Highlights of the exterior include:

  • Slim Y-shaped front and rear lighting elements
  • Flush pop-out door handles
  • Visor-style blacked-out A-pillars
  • Coupe-inspired roofline with a pop-up rear spoiler

2. AI-assisted driving

A standout feature of the new Xpend P7 is its AI-enhanced driver assistance system. Built around XPeng’s in-house developed ‘Turing’ chipset, the system is designed to offer autonomous driving capability using camera-only visual data.

This decision follows the one made by Tesla a few years ago, switching from a combination of camera and LiDar systems for autonomous driving capabilities to cameras only. This should make the overall system more energy efficient as well as more affordable.

3. Global strategy & market outlook

XPeng has made clear its intention to offer the P7 globally, although initial sales will begin in China. The 2026 P7 will launch domestically in August 2025.

International expansion remains on the agenda, with XPeng having recently entered the UK market with its G6 SUV. While the U.S. remains off the table due to trade restrictions, European and other Asia-Pacific markets could see the arrival of the new Xpeng P7 in the near future.

4. Model evolution

The Xpeng P7 represents a return to form for XPeng’s premium sedan line-up. Originally launched in 2019, the first-generation P7 drew praise for its Tesla-inspired aesthetics and smart tech. With this all-new generation, XPeng reclaims the P7 badge for its top-tier coupe-sedan offering, showcasing the brand’s ambition to compete on a global premium EV stage.

5. Full technical specification

XPeng has yet to disclose key technical specifications for the new P7, including powertrain outputs, battery size, and driving range. Early images suggest a high-performance variant, featuring large eight-spoke alloy wheels, red brake calipers, and cross-drilled rotors. However, it’s unlikely to be a competitor to the likes of the Tesla Model S Plaid or Xiaomi SU7.

While performance figures are still pending, the design and feature set strongly position the P7 as XPeng’s flagship EV sedan, aimed at tech-savvy buyers seeking cutting-edge innovation in a sleek package.
