- 0-100km/h acceleration improves to 4.4 seconds
- New Black Package adds motorsport-inspired styling and trim
The BMW X3 mid-size SUV is getting a series of running updates in Europe from December 2026, with the performance-focused M50 xDrive receiving the biggest changes.
For 2027, the X3 M50 xDrive gains significantly more power, and BMW is also introducing a new Black Package exclusively for the M50, adding motorsport-inspired exterior and interior details. BMW Australia has yet to confirm when these updates will reach local showrooms.

X3 M50 gets a power boost
The global CLAR-platform BMW X3 (G45) lineup features four core variants, and the X3 M50 xDrive is the first one to start getting mechanical and cabin enhancements across the entire series starting in December 2026.
| Specification | Updated X3 M50 xDrive |
|---|---|
| Engine | 3.0-litre turbo straight-six petrol |
| Power output | 326kW (+33kW) |
| Torque output | 580Nm |
| 0-100km/h | 4.4s |
| Emissions standard | Euro 7 |
The X3 M50 xDrive 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine continues with 48V mild-hybrid assistance, but its power output rises from 293kW to 326kW.
BMW’s claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time also improves to 4.4 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds quicker than the version currently offered in Australia. The updated performance powertrain also meets the latest Euro 7 emissions regulations.
New Black Package adds M-inspired details

BMW is also introducing a new Black Package exclusively for the X3 M50 xDrive, which the brand describes as “striking” exterior accents with motorsport-inspired details.
The biggest visual change comes from 22-inch M Black light-alloy wheels in the ‘Polygon 1134’ design. They add an extra inch to the M50 xDrive’s standard wheel and tyre package, while other M light-alloy wheel designs remain available.
The M Sport brakes are finished in high-gloss black and feature a monochromatic BMW M logo. The Black Package also changes every M logo and model badge to high-gloss black with a silver outline.

Alcantara dominates the cabin

Inside, BMW gives the Black Package a heavy dose of Alcantara trim. The synthetic suede appears across the driver’s-side instrument panel, the area ahead of the central display and the smartphone tray, and it also covers the doors and centre-console armrest.
The M logo is embossed into the Alcantara upholstery on the headrests, while the Alcantara/Veganza leatherette trim gets blue stitching and piping.
BMW’s M colours appear again on the flag motif fitted to the black floor mats, while selected interior elements also receive BMW Individual CraftedClarity glass ornamentation. The package is completed by an M steering wheel with a leather-trimmed airbag hub.
More updates across the X3 range

The changes aren’t limited to the M50 xDrive. The broader X3 range will receive several updates in Europe from December 2026, and the four-cylinder powertrain range will become compliant with Euro 7 emissions regulations.
BMW is also changing the surface ahead of the central display, which will now use a ‘PVC Softskin’ finish. Across the range, ambient lighting will be added to the centre-console storage compartment and the inner sides of the cabin door handles.
Other changes include a new glove box opener design and a stainless-steel boot sill guard, and all M Sport and M Performance models will also receive Dark Silver door entry sills featuring a black M logo.
