The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette lineup has been expanded with a new 6.7L V8 engine, alongside the return of the Grand Sport and the introduction of a hybrid Grand Sport X variant.

Headlining the update is the debut of the new LS6 V8, which will serve as the primary engine across the Corvette range, including the entry-level Stingray and the newly revealed Grand Sport. Production is scheduled to begin in mid-2026 in the United States.

A spokesperson for General Motors Australia said there are currently no announcements regarding the updated Corvette lineup for the ANZ region.

“The Grand Sport model has historically acted as a high-volume player in the Corvette lineup,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet.

Larger-capacity LS6 V8 becomes new core engine

The new 6.7L (6702cc) LS6 V8 is the largest-displacement engine fitted to the current C8-generation Corvette, producing 393kW and 705Nm. That makes it the most powerful naturally aspirated Corvette V8 in terms of torque, surpassing the outgoing 6.2-litre LT2 used in today’s Stingray.

Key technical upgrades include a 13.0:1 compression ratio – the highest ever for a Corvette engine – along with a larger 95mm throttle body, a high-flow tunnel-ram intake, and a combination of direct and port fuel injection. The engine also features forged internal components for improved durability under high loads.

“There is no replacement for displacement,” said Mike Kociba, highlighting the performance focus of the new powertrain.

Grand Sport returns as track-focused hero

Positioned as a purist, track-focused variant, the Grand Sport pairs the new LS6 V8 with rear-wheel drive and a range of chassis and aerodynamic upgrades.

It rides on staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tyres, with Magnetic Ride Control suspension fitted as standard. Buyers can opt for a Z52 Performance Package, adding stiffer suspension tuning and upgraded brakes sourced from the Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

A more extreme Z52 Track Performance Package introduces carbon-ceramic brakes, Michelin Cup 2R tyres, and a suite of aerodynamic enhancements, including a carbon-fibre splitter, dive planes, side skirts, and a rear wing.

2027 Chevrolet Corvette performance & specs

Powering the updated 2027 Corvette range is a new-generation 6.7L naturally aspirated LS6 V8, which becomes the core engine across both the Stingray and Grand Sport variants.

For buyers seeking electrified performance, the new Grand Sport X introduces a hybrid all-wheel-drive system that combines the LS6 V8 with a front-mounted electric motor for significantly higher outputs.

While full performance figures such as 0–100km/h times have yet to be confirmed, the increase in power and torque, particularly for the hybrid Grand Sport X, points to significantly quicker acceleration and improved track capability over outgoing models.

Hybrid Grand Sport X replaces E-Ray

The new Grand Sport X effectively replaces the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, bringing a more powerful hybrid setup to the Corvette range.

It pairs the 6.7L V8 with a front-mounted electric motor to deliver a combined system output of 538kW, a significant increase over the E-Ray’s 488kW. The Grand Sport X also features all-wheel drive and standard carbon-ceramic brakes.

Updates for Stingray and broader lineup

The entry-level Stingray benefits from the new LS6 engine, along with retuned Magnetic Ride Control. An updated Z51 Performance Package introduces a shorter 5.56 final drive ratio, new Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tyres and revised aerodynamic elements. A centre-exit exhaust is now available for the first time.

The current C8 Corvette range has steadily expanded since its 2020 debut, with variants including the Z06, E-Ray, ZR1 and range-topping Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X.

For 2027, the addition of the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X further broadens the lineup, reinforcing the Corvette’s dual focus on traditional V8 performance and electrified capability.
