2027 Cupra Formentor VZ5 gets exclusive ABT treatment in Australia

The 2027 Cupra Formentor VZ5 Custom Cupra by ABT Edition is coming to Australia, giving buyers a more exclusive version of Cupra’s upcoming five-cylinder performance SUV. Cupra Australia has confirmed that very limited numbers will be available to order, with first deliveries expected in the second quarter of 2027.

Priced at $109,990 drive-away, the ABT Edition commands an $8000 premium over the regular Formentor VZ5, which is due to arrive in Australia before the end of 2026. The VZ5 ABT Edition will also be one of the rarest Cupra models sold locally, with fewer than 100 examples of the regular VZ5 understood to be allocated to Australia.

What does the Cupra Formentor VZ5 ABT Edition get?

The ABT Edition adds a range of exterior upgrades developed with German performance tuning company ABT Sportsline. The package includes:

• More aggressive front and rear styling
• Redesigned side skirts
• A rear spoiler
• Exclusive 20-inch gloss-black alloy wheels
• Black exhaust outlets
• Dark chrome exterior badging
• ABT branding
• ABT-branded floor mats

The changes are primarily cosmetic, with the ABT Edition retaining the same engine, transmission and all-wheel-drive system as the regular VZ5.

Cupra Formentor VZ5 keeps its five-cylinder engine

Under the bonnet, the Cupra Formentor VZ5 continues with a 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 287kW and 480Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Cupra claims the VZ5 can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds, making it 0.5 seconds quicker than the 245kW Formentor VZx. The five-cylinder engine is also a major point of difference for the Australian market. The VZ5 will be the first Cupra model sold locally with Audi’s 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine, which has also been used in performance models such as the Audi RS3 and previous-generation Audi RS Q3.

How much does the Cupra Formentor VZ5 cost?

The 2027 Cupra Formentor VZ5 Custom Cupra by ABT Edition costs $109,990 drive-away. For comparison, the regular VZ5 is priced at $101,990 drive-away.

Buyers can choose premium paint for an additional $790, while matte paint costs an extra $3300. Cupra will cover the ABT Edition with its five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, along with five years of roadside assistance.

When will the Cupra Formentor VZ5 ABT Edition arrive?

The regular Cupra Formentor VZ5 is expected to go on sale in Australia before the end of 2026, while the ABT Edition will follow in Q2 2027. The VZ5 is expected to be sold in very limited numbers, with fewer than 100 examples understood to be headed to Australia.

Cupra has not yet confirmed whether the ABT treatment will be offered on other models locally. The wider Custom Cupra by ABT range has previously been shown on the Formentor, Leon and Leon Sportstourer. For Australian buyers, however, the VZ5 ABT Edition will be the first opportunity to combine Cupra’s most powerful Formentor with an exclusive ABT styling package.
