Ford Motor Company of Australia has issued a safety recall for all variants of the Ford Mustang (model years 2022-2025), citing a manufacturing defect in the Body Control Module (BCM). The fault may allow water to enter the module, leading to failures of key lighting systems and increasing the risk of accidents.

What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

According to the official recall notice (reference REC-006439), the defect relates to the vehicle’s Body Control Module, which may suffer from water ingress due to a manufacturing fault. If this occurs, the side-marker lamps, tail lamps, and license plate lamps may stop working correctly. The failure of these lights can significantly reduce the vehicle’s visibility in low-light or night-time conditions, making it harder for other road users to see the vehicle. This creates a heightened risk of accidents, particularly in poor visibility, and could lead to serious injury or even death.

Which vehicles are affected?

  • Make: Ford
  • Model: Mustang
  • Model Years: 2022–2025
  • Variants: All
  • Total Affected Units in Australia: 7,222

A list of affected VINs has been published. Chevrolet Camaro owners are encouraged to check if their vehicle is included in the recall.

What should owners do now?

Ford Motor Company of Australia will contact all affected owners directly to arrange corrective action. Customers will be advised to make an appointment with their nearest Ford dealership, where technicians will carry out the necessary repairs at no cost. While the exact remedy has not been detailed, it is expected to involve either repairing or replacing the faulty Body Control Module to ensure the lighting systems function as intended.
