The iconic Nissan Micra has been completely reimagined for its sixth generation, transitioning into a fully electric vehicle for the first time. Built on shared underpinnings with the upcoming Renault 5 E-Tech electric, the new Micra is part of a broader EV rollout from the brand, which includes a new electric Nissan Juke and a reinvented Nissan Leaf crossover within the next 18 months.

Micra reimagined for an EV future

Designers have crafted a bold and playful look for the new Micra while preserving the model’s recognisable charm. At the front, animated ring-shaped LED daytime running lights and a central LED ‘wink’ headlight offer a striking signature, setting the tone for the car’s updated identity.

The design flair continues at the rear, where circular tail lights echo the front and are connected via a black strip with the Nissan logo. Boot space measures 326 litres, expanding to 1,106 litres with the 40:60 split-fold seats lowered.

Nissan is offering a broad range of personalisation options. Six exterior colours are available, with contrasting silver or black roof options. Buyers can choose from two alloy wheel designs and a third wheel cover for added individuality.

Design rooted in Nissan’s heritage

“In designing the sixth generation of the Micra, we’ve celebrated all the values that have historically made it so popular – and opened a new chapter for Micra as an EV,” said Giovanny Arroba, Vice President of Nissan Design Europe. “We’ve also been able to integrate delightful details into the design, which owners will love.”

Interior and technology

Inside, the all-new Nissan Micra shares its dashboard layout with the Renault 5, though Nissan-specific badging and design cues are included. A pair of 10.1-inch digital screens – one for the instrument cluster and the other for infotainment – dominate the cabin and are angled towards the driver.

The infotainment system’s software  is Google-based, offering advanced route planning and charge-stop integration. Features include:

  • Battery pre-conditioning (where equipped) for optimised fast charging
  • Over-the-air updates
  • NissanConnect app with remote climate and vehicle status functions

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, alongside a wireless charging pad, and USB-C/12V ports. There’s a thoughtful nod to Nissan’s heritage, too – a Mount Fuji symbol is subtly embedded in the interior trim beside the charging area.

Rear-seat occupants benefit from two ISOFIX child seat mounting points, enhancing everyday usability.

Performance, battery & range

The reborn Nissan Micra EV will be offered with the choice of two battery options.

Battery capacity40kWh52kWh
Max power90kW110kW
Max torque225Nm245Nm
Range308km408km
Weight1400kg1524kg

Despite the different battery sizes, both versions can recharge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes at maximum charging speed. A Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function enables owners to power external devices — from laptops to small appliances — directly from the car.

Lightweight dynamics

The new Micra isn’t intended as a performance hatchback, but it boasts well-balanced driving dynamics thanks to a relatively light kerb weight for an EV — 1,400kg for the 40kWh and 1,524kg for the 52kWh variant. The lower weight also helps improve energy efficiency since there’s less mass to move around, hence more range from a smaller battery pack.

The suspension setup for 2025 Micra  includes:

  • Independent struts with passive dampers at the front
  • Multilink rear suspension

Suspension tuning is unchanged from the Renault 5, which hints at a composed and refined on-road experience.

Global debut and local timeline

The all-new Nissan Micra EV will hit the European market later in 2025 but no prices have been revealed yet. Australian audiences might have to miss out on driving the new Nissan Micra because, so far the reports suggest that 2025 Nissan Micra electric is exclusively for Europe.

Conclusion

The sixth-generation Nissan Micra marks a significant shift for the nameplate, embracing electrification with stylish design, improved practicality, and advanced technology. With two battery options and a modernised user experience, it aims to attract a new generation of EV buyers while honouring its heritage in the compact hatchback segment.
