The covers have been taken off the Aston Martin DBX S, the latest evolution of the brand’s performance SUV. Representing a significant leap forward in performance, and styling, the DBX S benefits from lessons learned through the brand’s hypercar programme and introduces a host of enhancements.

Performance derived from Valhalla

At the core of the DBX S lies an uprated version of the AMG-sourced and Aston Martin tuned 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8. Borrowing turbo technology from the Valhalla supercar, the engine now develops 535kW and 900Nm of torque. Enhancements include larger compressor wheels and improved internals, allowing for a 0–100kph time of 3.3 seconds and reducing the 0–200kph sprint by 0.3 seconds.

Dynamic transmission and exhaust enhancements

Power is delivered via a modified 9-speed wet-clutch automatic transmission, allowing up to 100% torque to be directed to the rear axle. Revised shift programming sharpens response, while a retuned exhaust system further accentuates the V8’s soundtrack.

Intelligent weight reduction

Carbon roof and magnesium wheels

Weight-saving measures on the Aston Martin DBX S are extensive, including a new carbon fibre roof that lowers the centre of gravity and shaves off 18kg. Optional 23-inch magnesium wheels contribute a further 19kg weight loss in unsprung mass reduction—claimed to be a first in the SUV segment.

Going for the lightweight wheels, you also lose the roof rails for further weight savings on the DBX S. Aston Martin also offers the option of a new polycarbonate honeycomb grille that supposedly helps shift the weight distribution further back for better handling capabilities.

Sharpened handling and ride

The Aston Martin DBX S benefits from recalibrated air springs and electronic dampers introduced last year, improving body control and cornering balance. A faster steering rack enhances responsiveness while maintaining refinement. Carbon ceramic brakes—420mm front, 390mm rear—deliver exceptional stopping power.

Active roll control & adaptive dynamics

Roll angles are kept to a minimum through electronic roll control, with spring rates adjusting dynamically based on drive mode. This results in a flatter, more composed ride even under aggressive cornering loads.

Exterior design: Assertive & aerodynamic

Front and rear redesign

The DBX S features a distinctive black vaned front grille, a distinctively shaped element of the Aston Martin lineup. New splitters and diffusers add visual width and aerodynamic function, while new quad stacked exhausts define the rear profile. The rear bumper has been reprofiled while added carbon fibre options for the side sills and spoiler can save another 7kg.

Carbon elements such as side strakes, mirrors, and sills enhance the DBX S’s visual intent. ‘S’ badging on the fenders references Aston Martin’s heritage, using solid metal and enamelled detailing reminiscent of models like the V12 Vantage S.

Bespoke ‘S’ interior theme

Inside, the Aston Martin DBX S showcases a bespoke cabin theme to be distinguished from the regular DBX. It features a herringbone seat pattern symbolising speed, Alcantara trim for weight reduction, and optional full semi-aniline leather for added luxury. The red ‘S’ branding is echoed throughout—from seat embroidery to treadplates.

Infotainment and audio technology

The flagship SUV features Aston Martin’s in-house developed infotainment system and a standard 800W 14-speaker audio system. An optional 1600 W Bowers & Wilkins setup, with 23 speakers and bespoke acoustic tuning, delivers an immersive soundscape matched to the SUV’s interior geometry.

Continuing the ‘S’ heritage

The DBX S joins a legacy of Aston Martin ‘S’ models dating back to the 1953 DB3S. True to form, it delivers increased performance, reduced weight, and sharper dynamics. Aston Martin is now accepting orders for the DBX S, with first customer deliveries scheduled for Q4 2025.

Australia-specific pricing for the Aston Martin DBX S is yet to be determined, but given that the DBX 707 was listed at $429,00 before on-road costs, the DBX S could touch the $500,000 on-road with options. Would you pick it over the even more expensive Ferrari Purosangue, or would you be more practical and go with something like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. If you’re more about performance than the luxury badge, then the new Audi RS Q8 Performance is quite a deal for around $255,000 as the current lap record holder at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
