Mahindra is globally unveiling its new dual-cab Scorpio-based ute on August 14 in India, and it is the production version of the Mahindra Global Pik-Up concept revealed in 2023.
The Indian carmaker has officially confirmed that this pickup is a global model and is going to launch in Australia, and here it is going to challenge the established lifestyle utes like the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger.
The company has not yet confirmed the Australian launch date, but the ute should reach local showrooms shortly after the global rollout. The exact pricing and full specifications are not confirmed in the upcoming pickup’s home market either.
Expected pricing and release date in Australia
Pricing of the upcoming Mahindra Global Pik-Up is not confirmed yet, but it is highly likely to undercut the ute leaders like the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger.
It is making its global debut in India on August 14, 2026, and the launch date has not been locked in yet, but many reports suggest an early 2027 launch; so the Australian launch may get delayed to mid or late 2027.
Production version of the Global Pik-Up concept
The new Mahindra ute is the production version of Mahindra’s 2023 Global Pik-Up concept, and until now the company has shown only selected parts of the vehicle in a fresh 40-second teaser video. The unveiling focuses on the final design and the vehicle’s global capabilities.
Mahindra has not yet locked in all specifications and features for the Indian-market version.
New ladder-frame platform
The ute will use Mahindra’s next-generation all-aluminium ladder-frame chassis, and it will also use the company’s second-generation 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine in global markets.
Mahindra has previously confirmed that the pickup will use a longer-wheelbase version of the Scorpio N platform to create more space for the load bed.
The company did a similar thing with the pickup derivative of the Mahindra Scorpio Classic, which has a wheelbase of just over 3 metres, stretched from the source’s 2.6-metre wheelbase.
Mahindra has also said the new-generation ladder frame will perform better in Global NCAP and Euro NCAP crash testing.

Powertrain options and performance
Mahindra India has previously said the upcoming ute will use its second-generation all-aluminium mHawk diesel engine, so the engine should pair with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
The company has also said the ute will offer four-wheel drive and multiple drive modes: Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut, and Sand.
Mahindra also plans to offer its mStallion 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in India, which also powers the Scorpio N, in selected international markets. The final powertrain specifications are yet to be released.
Exterior features
According to the teased visuals in India, the upcoming ute has a double-cab layout with a long rear load bed. A large “Mahindra” lettering sits across the tailgate, while the LED tail-lights use a C-shaped design.
In the front, the grille uses a hexagonal design, and L-shaped LED daytime running lights surround the slim LED headlights, and vertically stacked LED fog lamps sit lower in the bumper.
Mahindra has placed a front camera beneath the Twin Peaks logo on the grille, which suggests the ute could receive a 360-degree camera system, or potentially the 540-degree system available on the 2026 Scorpio N in India, which adds an under-bonnet view.
Updated interior and technology
The teaser also reveals that the cabin combines digital displays with plenty of physical controls. The features include:
- Large portrait-style central touchscreen
- Three-spoke steering wheel
- Digital driver’s display
- Rotary climate-control knobs
- Dual-zone climate control
- Drive-mode selector
The steering wheel and touchscreen layout resemble elements shown on the Mahindra Vision T prototype, and the new pickup mixes physical switches and digital interfaces.
The Indian variant is also going to get more safety and comfort tech such as Level 2 autonomous driving, semi-automatic parking, 5G connectivity and a sunroof.
Warranty expected to follow current package
Mahindra Australia has moved its newer lifestyle models to a competitive ownership package, and the upcoming ute is expected to receive the same coverage as its modern platform siblings:
- Seven-year/150,000km warranty, whichever comes first
- Seven years of complimentary roadside assistance
- Five to seven years of capped-price servicing
Mahindra does not officially disclose its precise monthly sales figures via VFACTS reports, but it mentioned that double-digit growth in 2025 has driven the brand into Australia’s Top 20 mainstream automotive brands.
The Mahindra XUV700 is Mahindra’s best-selling model in Australia and anchors a fully updated, modern local lineup alongside the smaller XUV3XO and the rugged, off-road-focused Scorpio.
