Chery has revealed its new iCaur V25 in China, giving us an early look at another boxy SUV from the Chinese brand as it prepares to expand iCaur into international markets. The V25 made its debut in Chengdu on August 14 and is expected to go on sale in China in the fourth quarter of 2026.

For Australian buyers, the V25 is one to keep an eye on. Chery is already expanding its electrified SUV portfolio in Australia, and iCaur is being positioned as a technology-focused brand for international markets. There is no confirmation of the Chery iCaur V25 for Australia yet, but the model fits neatly into the growing local appetite for electrified SUVs.

It looks like a proper off-roader

The V25 follows the same boxy design theme as other iCaur models, with a tall body, round headlights, chunky wheel arches and a flat roof. At the rear, there’s a side-opening tailgate and an externally mounted 22.7-litre storage box. The tailgate opens to 88 degrees, while the storage box gives the V25 a slightly unusual extra dose of practicality.

In other words, it looks like someone gave a modern electric SUV a very healthy dose of squared-off styling. The V25 measures 4636mm long, 1920mm wide and 1855mm tall, with a 2820mm wheelbase. The overall length includes the external rear storage box.

It has 197mm of ground clearance, along with approach and departure angles of 30 and 28 degrees respectively. The Chery iCaur V25 also gets 21-inch wheels wrapped in 265mm-wide tyres, while fixed side steps can support up to 130kg. There are five exterior colours available in China: white, black, silver, green and matte grey.

It is an extended-range EV

Underneath the boxy body is a 33.67kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery paired with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The petrol engine produces 115kW and acts as a range extender rather than being the main source of propulsion. The Chery iCaur V25 is expected to be offered in versions with either 145km or 150km of WLTC electric range, depending on the specification.

Once the battery reaches a low state of charge, Chery quotes fuel consumption of 6.9L/100km and 7.15L/100km for the different versions. The V25 is also expected to offer dual-motor all-wheel drive, with an electric motor driving each axle.

That combination could make the V25 particularly interesting for Australia if Chery eventually decides to bring it here. An extended-range EV can provide electric driving for shorter daily trips while retaining a petrol-powered range extender for longer journeys.

The final motor outputs and combined system power have not yet been announced. The chassis uses MacPherson struts at the front and a five-link independent suspension at the rear, with Chery saying the setup was tuned by an international calibration team.

It gets plenty of technology

The V25 isn’t just about looking rugged. Chery has fitted its Super Falcon 700+ driver-assistance system, which uses a Horizon Robotics Journey 6P chip with up to 560 TOPS of computing power.

A LiDAR sensor is available, while the system supports features including highway navigation, urban Navigation on Autopilot and automated parking. The full interior has not yet been revealed, with Chery expected to provide more details closer to the vehicle’s Chinese market launch.

Is the Chery iCaur V25 coming to Australia?

There is no Australian launch confirmation for the V25 at this stage. However, iCaur is expanding beyond China, with Chery already establishing overseas production for the V23 in Malaysia. That makes the V25 relevant to Australian buyers even if it isn’t officially destined for local showrooms yet.

If Chery does bring it here, the V25 would enter an increasingly competitive SUV market with a fairly unusual combination of features: boxy styling, extended-range electric power, up to 150km of EV range and available all-wheel drive. It would also give Australian buyers another option between a conventional hybrid and a full battery-electric SUV.

For now, the Chery iCaur V25 is confirmed for the Chinese market, where it is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. More details on pricing, specifications and international markets should emerge as the launch gets closer.
