Chery has expanded its flagship SUV line-up with a new front-wheel drive (FWD) version of the Chery Tiggo 9, priced from $52,990 MSRP. The move is aimed at making the large three-row SUV more accessible to a wider range of buyers.

The new Tiggo 9 Elite FWD sits as a more affordable entry point in the range, while retaining the design, technology and practicality seen in higher variants.

According to Chery Australia, the addition of a front-wheel drive option is intended for buyers who prioritise urban driving, comfort and value, without requiring all-wheel drive capability.

Key features of the Chery Tiggo 9 Elite FWD

The entry-level FWD variant comes well-equipped with features such as:

  • 360-degree surround view camera
  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wired and wireless)
  • Sony 8-speaker sound system
  • Heated front seats and power-adjustable front seats
  • Panoramic sunroof with powered sunshade
  • 50W wireless phone charger
  • Ambient lighting and voice control (“Hello Chery”)
  • Power tailgate
  • LED headlights and daytime running lights
  • 19-inch alloy wheels

Hybrid powertrain and efficiency

The Chery Tiggo 9 continues to use the brand’s Super Hybrid system. It combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with dual electric motors, producing a combined output of 225kW and 450Nm.

A 19kWh lithium-ion battery enables:

  • Up to 90km electric-only driving range (NEDC)
  • Up to 1,250km combined driving range

This setup positions the Tiggo 9 as a practical option for buyers looking for a large hybrid SUV with strong efficiency.

Availability in Australia

The Chery Tiggo 9 Elite FWD is expected to arrive in Australian showrooms from May 2026.
