More than 900 Cupra vehicles are being recalled in Australia due to a software issue that may temporarily disable electric power steering assistance under certain driving conditions.

The recall (campaign number 48T5, recall reference REC-006608), originally published on 12 May 2026, affects 920 vehicles across several Cupra model lines built between 2024 and 2026.

What’s the defect?

Cupra Leon

According to the recall notice, a software issue in the electric power steering system may cause the steering assistance to become temporarily inoperable under certain driving conditions.

If this occurs, steering will still remain functional, but drivers may experience a noticeable increase in steering effort, particularly while cornering.

Why is it a safety concern?

Cupra Formentor

A sudden increase in steering effort may make the vehicle harder to control, especially during turning manoeuvres.

This could increase the risk of an accident, potentially causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.

Cupra advises affected owners to contact their preferred CUPRA Service Partner to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Dealers will carry out a software update free of charge to fix the issue.
