Ford has issued a recall in Australia for two Ford F-150 Lightning utes, covering Lariat and Platinum variants built between 2021 and 2023 due to a manufacturing defect that affects the reverse lighting system. These pickups are not sold directly by Ford Australia. Instead, they are imported from the U.S. and remanufactured to right-hand drive by a local third-party firm, called AusEV.
What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

Ford has identified a manufacturing fault where moisture can enter the rear light bar assembly. Because of this, the reverse lights may stop working, or they may flicker on and off intermittently.
If the reverse lights do not work correctly, other drivers, pedestrians, or cyclists may not realise the vehicle is reversing. This increases the risk of collisions, serious injury or potentially fatal accidents involving other road users.
