Ford Australia has launched a nationwide safety recall for 29,874 vehicles after discovering a software bug that can leave the infotainment screen blank when reverse gear is selected. The fault, which affects seven different model lines built between 2022 and 2024, raises the risk of backing into unseen obstacles or pedestrians.

The nature of the defect
Ford says a software anomaly in the camera control module can prevent the rear‑view image from appearing on the central display when reverse is engaged. Without the live feed, drivers lose a key safety aid mandated under Australian Design Rule ADR 14/02 for vehicles built after 1st November 2021.
Safety hazard
If the camera is blank, drivers may be unaware of children, pedestrians or objects behind the vehicle, increasing the likelihood of a collision that could cause serious injury or death.

The fix – and what owners should do

- Free software update: Ford dealers will reflash the module to restore normal camera function.
- Booking required: Contact your preferred Ford service centre; the procedure takes about 30 minutes.
- No charge: All work will be completed free of cost under the recall.
Until the update is installed, Ford advises using mirrors and a visual check around the vehicle before reversing.

What if I’ve already had work done?
Even if your vehicle has recently been serviced, Ford recommends verifying that the latest camera software has been applied. Dealers will confirm during the booking process.

Ford apologises for the inconvenience and says it is working with its dealer network to ensure parts and technicians are available to complete the recall promptly.
