Ford Australia has issued a recall for 1,234 Mustang Mach-E vehicles built between 2023 and 2025 due to a potentially hazardous software flaw that could prevent occupants from exiting the vehicle. The issue affects both the driver’s and front passenger’s doors under specific circumstances.

What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?
A software glitch means that if the vehicle’s 12-volt battery is discharged and the doors are in the locked position, using the interior mechanical release handles to exit can trigger a malfunction. When the door is reclosed, it may remain locked, rendering both the key fob and internal/external handles useless.
This poses a significant safety hazard. In an emergency, a person could be trapped inside the car, unable to exit or be assisted, raising the risk of injury or even death.
