Ford Australia has issued a safety recall for 5034 examples of its now-discontinued Puma compact crossover SUV, citing a defect that may lead to a fuel leak and, in serious cases, a fire.
The issue stems from a manufacturing fault in which the fuel line sleeve may rub against a support bracket, potentially resulting in damage over time.
“If this occurs,” the recall notice warns, “fuel may leak, potentially resulting in loss of motive power while driving, and if in the presence of an external ignition source, may result in a vehicle fire.”

The recall affects Puma models built between 2021 and 2024.
Potential safety hazards
Ford has highlighted the serious consequences of this defect. The loss of fuel pressure could lead to sudden engine power loss while driving, posing a risk to occupants and other road users.
If leaking fuel comes into contact with an ignition source, it may result in a fire, increasing the likelihood of injury, fatality, or property damage.
