Genesis has unveiled the new X Skorpio Concept, an extreme off-road concept car designed to perform across the world’s harshest terrain, including the vast dunes of the Rub’ al Khali “Empty Quarter” desert in the United Arab Emirates.

Inspired by the resilience of a black scorpion, the X Skorpio Concept represents Genesis’ boldest step yet into rugged recreational off-roading, blending endurance racing capability with the brand’s signature luxury design approach.

The world premiere also marked Genesis’ announcement of a renewed concept car strategy, with the X Skorpio showcased alongside other adventure-focused studies such as the GV60 Outdoors Concept, GV70 Outdoors Concept, and GV80 Desert Edition.

Exterior design inspired by a black scorpion

The Genesis X Skorpio Concept takes its name and design influence from the black scorpion, a creature known for thriving in unforgiving environments.

Genesis X Skorpio Concept exterior features include:

  • Features tension-filled curves modelled after a scorpion’s raised tail
  • Uses segmented, armour-like body panels that resemble an exoskeleton
  • Panels are designed for practicality, allowing quicker repairs in extreme conditions
  • Incorporates Genesis’ signature Two-Line lighting design in both front and rear lamps
  • Lighting layout reinforces the vehicle’s sense of symmetry, strength, and identity
  • Includes a functional roof-mounted air intake for added capability and presence
  • Overall silhouette is bold, aggressive, and built with an endurance-ready stance

Interior blends luxury with endurance racing focus

Inside, Genesis says the X Skorpio Concept redefines luxury in the off-road segment, moving beyond the stripped-back utilitarian cabins typical of Trophy Trucks.

  • Cabin engineered around driver performance and passenger comfort during intense off-road conditions
  • Equipped with ergonomic seating to support endurance and reduce strain
  • Features an intuitive control layout for easier operation over rough terrain
  • Includes climate control systems designed to minimise driver fatigue
  • Steering-wheel-mounted instrument cluster keeps key driving data in view without distraction
  • Innovative sliding display system that can reconfigure between:
  • Driver-focused solo mode
  • Passenger-positioned co-pilot navigation mode
  • Prominent safety grab handles provide stability during harsh movements
  • Highly adjustable displays ensure clear visibility for both driver and navigator
  • Advanced communication systems enable coordination even in remote desert environments.

High-performance V8 power and extreme capability

At the heart of the X Skorpio Concept is a high-output V8 engine producing 820kW and 1,152Nm, setting a new benchmark for Genesis performance in an off-road application.

The vehicle rides on 18-inch beadlock wheels with custom 40-inch off-road tyres, and is equipped with Brembo Motorsport brakes for enhanced stopping power.

Genesis has engineered the X Skorpio concept with generous approach and departure angles, a short wheelbase, extreme ground clearance, and durable skid plates to tackle the roughest terrain without compromise.

The body structure incorporates fibreglass, carbon fibre, and Kevlar to balance durability with reduced weight, while safety features include an integrated roll cage and four-point harness system.

Built for Middle Eastern off-road culture

Genesis has tailored the X Skorpio Concept specifically to the off-road lifestyle of the Middle East, where high-speed desert driving, dune surfing, and airborne jumps are popular recreational pursuits.

Its aerodynamically optimised shape is designed to minimise drag while maximising stability, keeping the vehicle composed both on the sand and during moments of elevation.

The UAE debut positions Genesis at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, tapping into a rapidly growing luxury market with strong demand for performance and technological innovation.

A glimpse into Genesis’ next decade

Alongside the X Skorpio Concept, Genesis outlined a broader concept car strategy, continuing its use of experimental models to showcase future design and technology.

Since introducing its first concept in 2016, Genesis has explored its “Athletic Elegance” philosophy through three emotional pillars:

  • Luxury – Korean refinement and craftsmanship
  • Sport – confident power balanced with composure
  • Cool – adventurous lifestyle-driven self-expression

Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke said the X Skorpio explores a new facet of the brand’s identity.

“With a tubular frame, a full roll cage and many components sourced directly from off-road endurance racing specialists, the X Skorpio Concept highlights our intent to inject emotion and adrenaline into different segments.”

What does it mean for Genesis’ future?

The Genesis X Skorpio Concept signals the brand’s ambition to expand beyond traditional luxury sedans and SUVs into extreme lifestyle-driven niches.

While it remains a concept, the X Skorpio demonstrates Genesis’s capability to combine cutting-edge engineering, bold cultural inspiration, and high-end craftsmanship into a new category of extreme off-road luxury vehicles.

As Genesis continues to develop its concept strategy, the X Skorpio stands as one of its most daring statements yet,  a scorpion-like symbol of resilience, innovation, and limitless potential.
