The GWM Tank 300 has received a series of updates for 2025, with the headline change being the addition of a diesel powertrain. Shared with the GWM Cannon and Cannon Alpha utes, the diesel option joins the existing petrol and hybrid variants — now all benefitting from a series of mechanical upgrades that enhance performance and capability.

Importantly, these enhancements come at no additional cost, with pricing across the range remaining unchanged.

Pricing and range changes

The Tank 300 range now starts at $47,990 drive-away for the diesel Lux — $1500 lower than initially reported. Petrol and hybrid Lux variants have been dropped, as buyers increasingly favour the new diesel option.

ModelDrive-away price
2025 GWM Tank 300 Lux Diesel$47,990
2025 GWM Tank 300 Ultra petrol$49,990
2025 GWM Tank 300 Ultra Diesel$51,990
2025 GWM Tank 300 Ultra Hybrid$56,990

Updated drivetrain options

The 2025 GWM Tank 300 is offered with three powertrain options, each of which have been detailed below:

The diesel Tank 300 is the most fuel efficient option here and does not offer any less capability than its petrol and hybrid alternatives, with the exception of peak power output.

Expanded towing and payload capacity

With the diesel option introduced in March, GWM has also rolled out over 20 engineering upgrades to the petrol and hybrid versions. These include:

  • Larger front brake rotors and calipers
  • Reinforced prop shaft
  • Upgraded wheel bearings
  • Strengthened front suspension knuckles

As a result, all powertrains — diesel, petrol and hybrid — now offer a 3000kg braked towing capacity, up from 2500kg previously for the non-diesel variants. Payload has also seen a substantial rise, with the Ultra Hybrid rated at 600kg and the Ultra petrol now at 610kg, closely matching diesel versions.

Classification under emissions regulations

With its new 3000kg towing capacity and body-on-frame architecture, the GWM Tank 300 now falls under the “heavy off-road passenger vehicle” category under Australia’s incoming New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES). This means it will be subject to a higher allowable CO₂ emissions target, reflecting its off-road and towing credentials.

These figures represent a significant lift from the earlier maximums of 397kg (petrol) and 420kg (hybrid), bringing the entire lineup in line with buyer expectations in the off-road SUV space.

Trim levels and standard equipment

The 2025 Tank 300 continues to be offered in two trim levels – Lux and Ultra, though engine availability has shifted slightly. The petrol and hybrid Lux variants have been discontinued due to increased demand for the diesel engine.

Tank 300 Lux Diesel – Key Features:
