Isuzu UTE Australia (IUA) has announced the introduction of a new 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine for its D-MAX ute and MU-X SUV models, arriving in dealerships from October 1, 2025.

The update forms part of the brand’s 25.5 model year (MY25.5) refresh, bringing enhanced drivability, improved fuel economy, and wider towing capacity across the range.

This new powertrain replaces Isuzu’s outgoing 1.9-litre engine (110kW/350 Nm) and now sits under the larger 3.0-litre 4JJ3-TCX (140kW/450 Nm), offering buyers two strong diesel options.

Improved performance and refinement

The new 2.2L engine delivers stronger torque delivery compared with the outgoing 1.9L unit:

  • 255Nm from just 1,000rpm (almost 60% more than the 1.9L).
  • Peak torque of 400Nm between 1,600–2,400rpm.
  • Maximum power of 120kW at 3,600rpm.

Combined with the new 8-speed automatic, the drivetrain promises smoother shifts, improved acceleration, and better highway cruising efficiency.

All 25.5MY Isuzu D-MAX and MU-X models continue to feature a comprehensive safety suite, including:

  • 8 airbags (including centre airbag).

All 25.5MY D-MAX and MU-X models remain covered by Isuzu UTE’s Service Plus program, which includes 5 years of flat price servicing at $469 per service (every 15,000km), a 6-year warranty, and up to 7 years of roadside assistance.
