The JAC T9 may be a relatively recent entrant in Australia’s competitive ute segment, but it’s already the subject of a national safety recall. According to a notice published by JAC AUTO (PICKUP) PTY LTD, certain T9 dual-cab utes built between 2023 and 2024 may have an airbag installation issue that could significantly impact passenger safety.

The issue was officially announced on 8 July 2025, under recall number REC-006377, and affects 161 vehicles across all variants.

What’s the defect, and why is it serious?

At the centre of the recall is a manufacturing fault involving the curtain airbags on both sides of the cabin. Specifically, the bolts that secure the curtain airbags may not have been tightened to the correct torque specification during production.

While this may sound like a minor oversight, the consequences can be severe. If the airbags are not properly fastened, they may fail to deploy correctly in a collision, which increases the risk of serious injury or death to occupants.

Which vehicles are affected?

  • Make: JAC
  • Model: T9
  • Year range: 2023–2024
  • Variants: All variants included
  • Affected units: 161

A full list of affected VINs has been published. If you own a JAC T9, it’s worth checking to see if your vehicle is on the list.

What should owners do now?

If you believe your vehicle may be impacted, don’t delay. JAC Motors Australia is advising customers to book a service appointment with their local dealer as soon as possible. The repair work will be performed free of charge.

The fix involves checking and correctly fastening the curtain airbag bolts, a seemingly simple yet essential step for ensuring your vehicle’s airbags perform as intended in an emergency.
