Jaecoo has officially confirmed the arrival of its all-new compact SUV, the J5, set to launch in Australia in early 2026. Following the success of the larger Jaecoo J7, the J5 carries over the brand’s rugged design and premium interior. It is positioned for a smaller and more accessible segment of the SUV market.
Jaecoo J5 engine options
The Jaecoo J5 will launch in Australia with three powertrain options – turbo-petrol, turbo-petrol with series-parallel hybrid, and as a battery electric vehicle (BEV). While the full list of specifications of these powertrains is yet to be announced, Jaecoo confirms that the pure electric J5 will offer a WLTP-rated range of 402km. Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol engine without electrification will be paired with a CVT automatic and deliver 108kW and 210Nm of performance.
Jaecoo J5 exterior design
The J5 adopts Jaecoo’s familiar design language, with a waterfall-style grille, upright stance, and squared-off proportions. Subtle sculpting along the body sides lends the boxy SUV a polished appearance. The overall look of the SUV balances between both everyday urban driving appeal and a hint of off-road toughness.

Jaecoo J5 interior & safety
Inside, the J5 compact SUV offers a price-related balance of function, comfort, and technology. Its 2620mm wheelbase should provide ample legroom for five adults, while the 480L boot space expands to 1284L with the rear seats folded flat.
Interior features include:
- 13.2-inch touchscreen
- Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
- 8.0-inch digital driver display
- 6-speaker audio system

Standard safety features include:
- Comprehensive driver-assistance suite
- Systems designed to reduce fatigue and enhance focus
- Advanced sensors and cameras for collision mitigation and driver support
- Peace of mind for both urban and outdoor driving scenarios
Market positioning
The 2026 Jaecoo J5 targets Australia’s competitive compact SUV market. With petrol and hybrid options, it competes with models like the Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-30, and Kia Seltos, while offering a distinguished blend of rugged styling and premium features. Its combination of technology, space, and adventure-ready design positions the J5 as a strong alternative for buyers seeking both practicality and modern SUV appeal.
