Omoda Jaecoo, a sub-brand of the major Chinese automaker Chery Automobile, has unveiled the specs and features of its first EV for Australia, the Jaecoo J5 EV. The 5-seat electric SUV will arrive in Australian showrooms in January 2026 with only one “Track” variant. Jaecoo launched in Australia last year with the Jaecoo J7 (petrol and PHEV SUV), which is bigger than the upcoming J5 EV.
For the J5 EV, the Chief Commercial Officer, OMODA JAECOO AUS & NZ, Roy Munoz, said: “Kicking off with the BEV variant, it will be a compelling choice in an increasingly competitive EV market. No other vehicle currently offers a pet-friendly interior and a large selection of accessories, which range from a dog carrier to a waterproof cargo mat, and even a karaoke machine.”
Jaecoo J5 EV pricing and launch plan

The J5 range starts with the 5-seat electric SUV, and its release date is set for January 2026. The J5 hybrid and petrol engine versions will likely launch in March 2026.
The J5 EV will be sold in one fully equipped model grade, called Track, which is also pet-friendly, and the brand has not revealed the pricing of the J5 EV yet. The “Track” variant does not signify that this SUV is designed for off-road driving or for racing circuits, or anything especially dynamic. This naming simply aligns with other Omoda Jaecoo models.
