Stellantis Australia and New Zealand has recalled 1,394 Jeep WL Grand Cherokee SUVs over a software fault that could delay the deployment of the vehicle’s side airbags. The recall was published on 13 October 2026 under recall number REC-006741 and applies to vehicles from the 2023 model year.
The issue affects the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC), a module involved in managing the vehicle’s restraint systems. According to the official Australian vehicle recall notice, a software issue could cause the front door airbag pressure sensors to remain active, potentially delaying side airbag deployment.
What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

The fault relates to the software controlling the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s occupant restraint system. The front door airbag pressure sensors may remain active because of an issue with the ORC module, which could prevent the side airbags from deploying as intended.
Side airbags are designed to help protect occupants during certain side-impact collisions. If deployment is delayed in a crash, the affected vehicle’s occupants could face an increased risk of injury.
The recall notice does not state that the airbags will fail in every crash. However, the possibility of delayed deployment is a safety concern that requires corrective action.
Stellantis has advised owners to contact their nearest authorised dealership as soon as possible to arrange a software update. The repair will be carried out free of charge.
