Kia has issued a recall for the Kia K4 hatch, flagging a potential fault with the rear centre seatbelt, which could fail to latch during a crash. The Kia K4 hatchback serves as the successor to the long-running Kia Cerato and is designed to challenge the SUV-dominated market by offering features typically found in higher segments.

What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?

The issue relates to the rear middle seat belt anchor buckle, which may have been incorrectly assembled and could fail to latch or operate properly. If the seatbelt doesn’t function as intended, it may not restrain occupants properly in a crash, and increase the risk of injury or death.
