Lexus Australia has confirmed a fix for 789 Lexus GX550 and LX600 SUVs affected by a recall over potential engine failure. The affected vehicles are fitted with a specific version of the V35A twin-turbocharged 3.4-litre petrol V6, which may contain machining debris left over from the manufacturing process.
Lexus Australia first announced the recall in November 2025, but a remedy was not available at the time. The company has now confirmed that affected vehicles can be inspected, with engine replacement available where necessary.

What’s the defect, and why is it serious?
The affected engines use crankshaft main bearings, which allow the crankshaft to rotate inside the engine while it is running. Lexus says machining debris may not have been completely cleared from some engines during production. If the debris attaches to the main bearings and the engine continues operating under higher loads, the bearings could fail. This could cause engine knocking, rough running, difficulty starting or an engine stall.
If the engine stalls while the vehicle is being driven, the vehicle can lose motive power. Lexus says a loss of motive power at higher speeds can increase the risk of a collision. Lexus has also confirmed that owners may notice warning signs before a loss of motive power. These can include an unusual knocking noise, rough engine operation or the engine failing to start.

The affected Lexus GX550 vehicles were produced between 4 March 2024 and 3 April 2024. The affected Lexus LX600 vehicles were produced between 16 November 2022 and 1 April 2024. Not every vehicle within these production ranges was sold in Australia, so owners should confirm whether their individual vehicle is affected using its VIN. Lexus Australia has provided VIN ranges for the affected vehicles and will contact owners directly about the remedy.
What will Lexus do to fix the problem?
Lexus dealers will carry out an inspection of the engine to assess the condition of the affected main bearing and determine whether further repairs are required. The inspection is expected to take around two hours. Importantly, Lexus says not every affected vehicle will need a new engine. If the inspection identifies a problem requiring further work, the appropriate repair will be carried out, including engine replacement where necessary.
The repair will be completed free of charge to owners. If an engine replacement is required, the vehicle will need to remain with the dealer for longer. Lexus says a loan vehicle will be provided for the duration of the repair.
What should Lexus owners do now?
Lexus Australia will contact owners of affected vehicles again with details of the remedy. Owners can also contact their preferred Lexus dealer to confirm whether their vehicle is included in the recall and arrange an inspection. Lexus says owners can continue driving their vehicle before the inspection, but recommends contacting a dealer at the earliest opportunity.
If an affected vehicle develops a knocking noise, runs roughly or fails to start, Lexus advises the driver to stop the vehicle when it is safe to do so and contact a Lexus dealer for assistance.
