Lexus Australia has issued a safety recall for 789 units of its GX 550 and LX 600 SUVs, built between 2022 and 2024. The recall stems from a manufacturing defect that may cause engine contamination, potentially leading to stalling or loss of power while driving, posing a significant safety risk to motorists.

What’s the defect, and why is it so serious?
The issue stems from a manufacturing defect where small amounts of machining debris may have remained inside the engine during production. Over time, these metal particles can circulate through the system, leading to engine knocking, rough running, or complete stalling while driving.
This isn’t just a minor performance glitch, it can cause a sudden loss of motive power, leaving drivers unable to accelerate or maintain control in traffic. Such a scenario significantly increases the risk of a collision, posing a serious safety concern for both occupants and other road users.
