The Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 has set a new benchmark at Germany’s Nürburgring-Nordschleife, becoming the fastest production car in its segment ahead of its Australian launch later this month.
The all-electric performance sedan recorded an officially verified lap time of 7:32.070 around the 20.832km circuit, claiming the class record on its first attempt.
Mercedes-AMG has confirmed Australian sales will begin in August 2026, making the record-setting EV one of the brand’s newest high-performance models headed for local showrooms.
Triple-motor electric power delivers 500kW
Power comes from three axial-flux electric motors producing a combined 500kW (680hp), enabling the CLA 45 to sprint from 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds.
The drivetrain uses two rear motors and one front motor, allowing fully variable torque distribution through AMG’s latest Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. The front motor provides additional boost when needed, while torque vectoring across the rear axle enhances grip and cornering performance.
AMG technology optimised for record lap
The record-setting run was supported by Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tyres, AMG RIDE CONTROL adaptive suspension, active aerodynamics and Mercedes-AMG’s Predictive Performance Manager (PPM).
The optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package adds a dedicated RACE drive mode, sharpening throttle response, adjusting the suspension and optimising the all-wheel-drive system for maximum circuit performance.
An active rear spoiler automatically adjusts its position to improve stability or reduce aerodynamic drag, while active cooling shutters regulate airflow to balance efficiency and battery cooling.
94kWh battery targets performance and range
The CLA 45 uses a 94kWh battery, delivering a claimed WLTP driving range of more than 670km for the sedan.
Mercedes-AMG says the battery has been engineered to maintain consistent performance during repeated high-speed driving while keeping cell temperatures within their optimal operating range.
Australia launch confirmed for August 2026
Mercedes-AMG has confirmed the CLA 45 will go on sale in Australia in August 2026, bringing the Nürburgring record holder to local buyers.
Commenting on the achievement, Dr Stefan Weckbach, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said:

With 500kW, a 2.7-second 0-100km/h time and a Nürburgring lap record, the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 is set to become one of Australia’s most capable electric performance sedans when it arrives later this month.
