The 2026 MG 7 is now confirmed for Australia, priced from $44,990 before on-road costs and offered in one well-equipped trim. Positioned as a liftback competitor to the Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata N Line, it enters a mainstream mid-size passenger car segment that continues to shrink as buyers move to SUVs.

While MG does not expect Camry-rivalling volume, it says the MG 7 offers a combination of styling focus and liftback practicality aimed at customers who still value stylish sedans. MG says the model may appeal to buyers who previously considered the Kia Stinger or the  Volkswagen Arteon.

MG 7 design & safety

The MG 7 adopts a low, sleek profile with frameless doors, quad exhaust outlets, and 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 245/40 Michelin tyres. A practical liftback offers better cargo access than traditional sedans.

MG also promises a wider range of colour options than usually offered in the segment, according to MG, with emerald green as standard.

MG says the MG 7 has been engineered to achieve a five-star ANCAP safety rating, reflecting recent results for models such as the S5 EV and IM-series vehicles. Seven airbags and a suite of driver assist technologies are standard.

MG 7 interior & features

A broad feature list supports the MG 7’s higher-specification positioning within the segment.

MG 7 market positioning

Mid-size passenger cars now account for a small share of the market, with the Toyota Camry making up around two-thirds of the segment. MG expects the MG 7 to play a relatively small role in the segment but says there is still a market for buyers who prefer sedans. The company refers to the MG 7 as ‘practical and design cool.

It is the first petrol-powered mid-size MG to be offered in Australia since the ZT ended sales about 20 years ago. The previous MG 7 (sold from 2007 to 2013) drew on Rover underpinnings, whereas the new model is built on a modern platform designed specifically for it.
