MG HS HYBRID+ launched in Australia

MG Motor Australia has officially launched the HS Hybrid+, a new hybrid SUV aimed directly at the family SUV market. As we reported earlier, preliminary details hinted at a competitive pricing strategy and strong hybrid performance; MG has now confirmed the official driveaway prices and specifications.

While our earlier report suggested pricing from $42,990, the MG HS Hybrid+ is now confirmed at a driveaway price of $40,990, keeping it competitively positioned against rivals.

At the heart of MG’s claims for the HS HYBRID+ is what the brand calls a class-leading powertrain. Unlike some hybrids that prioritise efficiency over power, MG is pushing a performance-oriented narrative. As we reported earlier, the HS Hybrid+ features a closed-loop (series) hybrid system. The specifications are now officially confirmed and detailed below:

Key technical differentiators

Liquid-Cooled Battery

A primary highlight is the use of an exclusive liquid-cooling system for the hybrid battery. MG claims this offers 300% better heat management than air-cooled systems, a significant advantage for reliability and performance retention during hot Australian summers.

2-Speed Transmission

The hybrid system uses a 2-speed transmission instead of a typical single-speed e-transmission, which MG says improves usability and economy across a broader range of driving conditions.

Practicality

The MG HS Hybrid+ retains the practical space of the standard HS model, offering:

• 507 litres of boot space with the rear seats up.
• 1,484 litres with the rear seats folded.

Offers for early buyers

MG Motor is providing special incentives for new HS Hybrid+ customers:

• Fuel Offer: Purchase before 2 November and receive a $1,000 fuel voucher, which MG claims would cover roughly a year of fuel expenses.
• Test Drive Gift: Weekend test drives (Saturday and Sunday only) from 11 October to 21 December include a $50 gift.

MG warranty and servicing

The MG HS HYBRID+ comes with MG’s 10-year warranty, conditional on servicing at MG dealerships only. Service-activated roadside assistance is also included for the duration of the warranty.
