The new MG S6 EV has been revealed in images following Euro NCAP crash testing, giving Australian enthusiasts a first clear glimpse of the brand’s answer to the Tesla Model Y. Though yet to be officially unveiled, the mid-size electric SUV has already secured a five-star safety rating from Europe’s leading safety authority.

Visually, the MG S6 EV closely resembles the smaller S5 EV, with low-set headlights, narrow triangular daytime running lights, and a rear light bar spanning the tailgate.

Interior and cabin space

Euro NCAP images show a digital instrument cluster and steering wheel similar to the S5, though full cabin details remain under wraps. With a longer body than the S5, the S6 is expected to offer more interior space, building on the S5’s strength in practicality for Australian families.

Safety and performance

The Euro NCAP test lists the MG S6 EV’s kerb weight at 1908kg and confirms a two-wheel drive layout, likely powered by a rear-mounted motor similar to the S5’s 228bhp unit. While the S5 achieves 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds, the S6 may be slightly slower due to its increased weight.

Crash test results include a 92% score for adult occupant protection and 85% for child occupants, indicating strong safety credentials ahead of its Australian release.

Battery, range, and market position

Details on the MG S6’s battery capacity remain unconfirmed. The MG S5 uses a 62.1kWh pack with a claimed 288-mile range, though some competitors, including the Nissan Ariya, offer more than 300 miles.

Australian pricing is expected to position the MG S6 between the MG S5 and the premium MG IM6, which starts at $60,990 drive-away. With both single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants expected, the MG S6 EV will compete with the Tesla Model Y and other mid-size electric SUVs in the local market.

Australian launch timeline

MG has confirmed the S6 EV will arrive in Australia in the first half of 2026. Full specifications, official pricing, and a local image gallery are expected closer to launch.
