The petrol-powered variants of the MG ZS are getting a significant update for 2026, with new turbo petrol power, upgraded hybrid efficiency, and better driver ergonomics. Before the improved range arrives Down Under, MG Motor Australia has announced ‘plate clearance’ offers on existing MG ZS Vibe and MG ZS Essence 1.5L CVT models, available until the stocks run out.

Clearance deals on MG ZS Vibe and Essence

MG ZS

Plate clearance is when car manufacturers and dealers offer discounts on last year’s models to make way for the new ones. The MG ZS has been one of the most popular cars in Australia’s compact SUV market, offering affordable pricing, an extended warranty, and decent tech for the money. With the new model due early next year, MG dealerships are offering run-out pricing on the current MG ZS Vibe and MG ZS Essence variants powered by the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.

These plate clearance offers are available through MG dealerships across Australia until the remaining stock is sold.

2026 MG ZS Hybrid+ updates

MG ZS

The updated MG ZS Hybrid+ gets a major software revision aimed at improving driveability, smoothness, and fuel economy. MG claims the new software enhances performance across city and highway conditions without altering the existing hardware.

Key MG ZS Hybrid+ improvements

  • Smoother acceleration to aid in easier stop-start driving.
  • Improved efficiency with improved regenerative braking, claiming 4.7L/100km combined.
  • Quieter cruising at highway speeds with engine revs reduced to ~3200 rpm for lower cabin noise.
  • Enhanced power delivery above 4000 rpm, which will help in overtakes and merging.

The MG ZS Hybrid+ will continue to be available in Excite and Essence grades.

MG 1.5L turbo joins the ZS

MG ZS Hybrid+

For the 2026 ZS petrol-powered SUV, MG is introducing its turbocharged engine. The new MG ZS Vibe 1.5L Turbo and MG ZS Essence 1.5L Turbo models will produce 125 kW and 275 Nm, delivering a 54% increase in power over the previous 1.5L engine. The 2026 MG ZS EV is to be priced from $25,888 (MRLP).

This upgrade brings the MG ZS closer in performance to rivals like the Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, and Toyota Yaris Cross, which already offer turbo or hybrid options.

Comfort features and safety updates

MG ZS Hybrid+

All 2026 MG ZS models will now include tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel adjustment, addressing one of the key ergonomic complaints from current owners. Standard safety tech remains extensive, with features such as:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Lane Keep Assist and Lane Change Assist
  • Blind Spot Detection
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
  • Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA)

These features contribute to the MG ZS’s ongoing appeal as one of the most feature-rich compact SUVs at its price point.

Design changes for the new MG ZS

MG ZS Hybrid+

The MG ZS Vibe 2026 receives larger, newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels, while the MG ZS Essence and MG ZS Hybrid+ variants gain 18-inch alloys for a sportier stance. The interior remains largely unchanged apart from improved steering adjustment and software-driven refinements.

MG ZS warranty and dealer network

All MG ZS models continue to be backed by MG Motor Australia’s 10-year warranty (when serviced at authorised dealerships) and the brand’s network of over 100 dealers nationwide.

Final thoughts

For value-conscious buyers, the current plate-clearance MG ZS models are definitely both tempting and lucrative, but those willing to wait for the 2026 update can expect a more polished and capable SUV overall..
